Concealed Carry... do you do it / would you do it?
How many of you guys/gals live in states where Concealed Carry is legal, and do you practice? I live in Wisconsin, and we are on the verge of passing a CC law in the very near future, and I plan to celebrate by purchasing a new gun the day the law takes effect.
My sister and I are both taking the class in the very near future. And believe me, once we're licensed, I'll be carrying when I have to go to places that are considered "safety" problems. I really hope I never have to use it, but I'd feel better about having a gun in those areas--I'm a pretty small woman, and some people might see me as an easy target. Think again.
What kind of gun are you looking at getting? Have you decided yet? I was thinking Glock, because if I plan on carrying it the majority of places I go (which I would, believe me), I'd want it leightweight. However, Smith & Wesson makes some really really nice low-weight small-caliber firearms.
I've got a Glock 9 mm (I don't remember the model number, it's the one with the small stock, though) and I really like it. It shoots smoothly and has a built in laser sight. I'll probably carry that when I do carry. Just be careful about Glocks--some of them have a tendency to jam, so a little trigger work is usually recommended. My 9 mm jammed the first time it was ever shot, but had the trigger work done, and haven't had a problem since.
However, I do shoot competitively (skeet, trap, and sporting clays) and I'm starting to get into pistols and accuracy shooting. Basically, I'm going to need a huge gun safe in the near future. lol
Whoo! Cars and guns, your husband may be the luckiest man on the planet.
What kind of shotgun do you use? I know, I'm hijacking the thread, but now I'm curious. I use a Browning Gold Hunter 3.5" semi-auto 12 gauge... love that gun
Yes, I do carry and yes I have a license and have had for years. I carry a glock 36, 45 caliber 7 rounds ( with extender ).
I had to draw just last night actually, it is funny that you bring this up. First time in many months. These 3 guys came to my door in my UPPER class neighborhood after midnight and my wife, not thinking anything about it, just went to the door before I could stop her. When she got there I heard her yell "Jesus Christ" because they started throwing stuff at the house. Thankfully she didn't open the door, but when I got there I unlocked it and went through while racking the slide on my glock. Unmistakable sound. You never seen a s s h o l e s move that fast in your life. They got in their car and left. It was a late model honda, tennessee plates. I have surveilance cameras at the four corners of my house and two of them caught the action. The friggin chief of the metro police lives across the road and down 2 houses. Three other cops live within hearing distance if I had had to unload.
God knows why they picked us, or what they thought they were doing but just the sight and sound of the glock was enough to discourage them. The muzzle on that 45 looks like a cannon when it's pointed at you.
The world is a dangerous place. Even when you think you are safe in your home.
Really thinking about it. Not really going to be carrying what I have now thow - a Sig P220ST. At about 2.5 lbs unloaded, seems a bit much to be carrying around all the time.
1. If someone sees it by accident, I could be arrested (like if my jacket was open)
2. having it on for 40 years I expect a couple of negligent discharge. I dropped my cell phone couple times a day
3. Being alert, aware, and smart would protect me more than having a gun
4. Having it tends to make people take more risk or make them trigger happy, not all but some. I prefer not to find out which side I'm on.
I think used properly, handgun could be definately give you peace of mind, like RedHerring's story. If I own a house I would keep two, one by bed and one by the door.
I have my AZ CCW permit and I carry occasionally...when I feel that I am going to be in a bad area. I carry a Glock 19 (9mm) it is a sub compact. I would have went with the 26 (compact) but it is too small for my hands. If my Glock is not on my hip it is loaded at my bedside in a fast access safe....if you are planning to keep a loaded gun in the house I would recomend one. It takes me less than 2 seconds to open the safe so the gun is easily accessible to those that know the code(wife and myself).
ive carried for years, although i dont as much anymore because my situation is a little different. Its too much work carrying and concealing some hand cannon......I prefer a beretta 22 automatic, if its good enough for Mossad its good enough for me.
Its not a matter of being safe for me. You see if I didn't carry a gun I would be the only male in Texas not doing so. So for me its a matter of just fitting in and being cool. I carry the biggest damn gun I could find - a desert eagle .50. And of course this wouldn't nearly be complete if I didn't drive my regularly ridin' horse around in my Ford F950. When I'm not not drivin' my pickup, I like to sport my 350Z emblazoned with a set of bull horns protruding proudly off the front bumper.
- JUST JOKIN'
I do have a license just in case, but usually do not carry my Walther P99 9MM unless I go on a road trip, or visit unpopular areas.
I think it's great that some people carry guns, because it scares criminals, protects innocent lives, and people with CCW permits have shown to be several times more accurate than police officers.
But California has a law against it, unless some sheriff allows us to carry a gun. I don't know what makes his opinion more important than mine, but I probably wouldn't carry a gun. I don't even like to carry a wallet or cell phone.
The politicians who outlaw guns and actors who say how wrong it is to have guns all seem to carry them though.

Don't forget the wife of a former presidential press secretary shot in an assasignation attempt on the president, who buys guns illegally for her son, all the while promoting handgun regulations.
I applied for my weapons permit the day I turned 21, my first gun was an OLD 1911 Model .45 Ithaca contract, a large frame gun, so I could only carry it in winter when I had a coat on. When I couldn't stand it anymore I traded in two of my .22's and bought an H&K Tactical. It's beautiful!! 10 round magazine, threaded barrel, polymer grip and adjustable rear sight.
Why do so many people use 9mm? Nothing against it, just wondering. Anyway for a "house gun" I'd have to go with a Benelli M4, with all the bells and whistles. For a carry gun I'd like an H&K Compact, the Tactical is just too damn big. Glocks are ok, not very "pretty" but very functional. As far as the GLock jamming, it may be cheap ammo? What trigger job are you talking about? the 2.5lb job?
Originally posted by MannishBoy I really want an H&K USP Compact, probably in .40 or .45. It will be interesting to see if they let the magazine ban sunset (I assume they will).
Will the USP compacts be able to carry over 10 rounds? I know the Tactical has a 12 round out there, but it's illegal. The gun was made after the ban took place so the only 12 round mags here are illegal imports. I thought the compact has a smaller grip?
Another cool gun to recently come out is the Beretta Vertec, it has all the good looks of the Beretta model 92's but has an accessory rail.
