thanks for all of the help in the other thread guys. it came down to this and a glock 27 sc, which was smaller, and lighter.. but I just loved the feel of the trigger and overall feel of the xd.
I also purchased a blackhawk paddle holster with adjustable canter and such, loving it. it locks into place, and the lock is where your trigger finger naturally gravitates, so it's perfect.
the last few rounds are incredibly difficult to get into the mag, I hope it 'breaks in' a little bit, but I have my doubts, the speed loader is very useful for the last 3 rounds.. lol.
my hands are small enough to where I can get a decent grip on the gun without the extended mag, so I will probably carry it with the smaller mag in, keep it a little more compact.
Check out XDTalk.com it's got a really good forum.
The mag loading properly wont get easier, but you may develop a better technique after awhile. Typically I just do the exact thing the speed loader does with my fingers, the weak hand's thumb, dips down the back end of a round, and the strong hang wedges a round in the created gap. You'll develop finger strength soon enough, best to learn how to avoid tools whenever possible.

I'll be checking this forum out as well didnt know it existed.
op- congrats on your new purchase! What deciding factors led to the 40? Im curious because i ended up with the 45 acp and love it. Its very accurate and comfortable in my hands.
the first carry gun I picked out was a 9mm, I intended to get the woman into shooting it. she made it pretty clear that she didn't have any interest or desire to fire it.
I wanted a fairly affordable round to fire off, with good stopping power, so I went with the .40.
