Default Building my first ar-15.

I've been wanting an ar-15 for awhile and now just finally have enough play money to build something nice. Now here is what I have got so far: Spike's Tactical lower receiver with Daniel Defense LPK. Could you guys recommend me some good high quality complete upper? There's just too many options lol.

Whats your price range on the complete upper? If its in the 1200 range, you pretty much can't beat the Larue Tactical line....

If you really want to get the best of the best gas piston upper, check out LWRC. They're pricey though.

I'm currently building myself a 10.5" Rock River Arms SBR. With the ATF tax, quad free float rail, tactical latch, smith vortex flash hider, front and rear Magpul MBUS, and 6 Magpul PMAGS it'll come out to a little over $1,400 for everything, which is a damn good deal. RRA makes some pretty good stuff.

That's a nice looking lower you got there by the way.

Why didn't you get their whole gas piston system rifle if you got the lower? Spikes tactical ran a special $850 for a whole package.

So i'm assuming Larue is the top top line of uppers lol. I could just go get a bushmaster for that price. My price range is around $900.00

lol the ATF tax is around 200 right? What is your opinion on the RRA complete upper kit (it includes the charge handle/BCG/barrel/handguard)? I've been hearing mix reviews on the gas piston system so I'm still thinking about it.

link?

I prefer to not have an out of the box rifle, since I like to learn about all the parts that goes into it. If it ever have problems, I can diagnose it and not have some overpaid armory guy working on it.

Yep, the tax is 200. I already had a RRA complete rifle and it performs flawlessly as long as you take care of it and feed it good ammo just like you should any rifle.

In all honesty, the gas pistons are nice, but the price doesn't really justify it. I clean my guns after every trip to the range so something that will keep my gun a little cleaner is not worth 2-3x the price.

+1 get a free floating quad rail. They have some Yankee Hill ones on gunbroker for about $100.
