Well, I think the title pretty well conveys what I'm looking for. I'm trying to find a decent .22 pistol under $500, mostly for squirrel hunting, target practice, and "plinking". I want it to be fairly accurate, and I need to be able to attach a small conventional scope to it (none of that red-dot stuff).
Any ideas as to which brand I should steer towards/away from? Any specific gun model that I should look into? Is there an aftermarket for these things, and if so what kind of stuff can I get, and which gun is most conducive to modification?
I've got the Ruger 10/22 rifle and have had it for years; I also have a ruger P82(?) 9mm pistol. Both guns have been excellent so far, so maybe that's not a bad idea.

i would also recomend the walther.
the ruger would be cheap and accurate but very very hard to maintain for cleaning purposes. it's just a pain in the *** to get the guns pieces back together properly. the walther would be so much easier.
i own over 10 handguns and have owned 2 rugers in the past. they are good guns but i wouldn't buy another. better quality out there.
model has changed over the years, but basically the same mechanically. I guess the one they have now is a 6 7/8" bull barrel davidson model. Still probably shoots the best.
that is what you need to get. forget the recomendations of the long barreled ruger. the walther will shoot better and more reliablly and maintain itself easier than the ruger will. it is compensated if you get the target models which will assist in aiming also. the gun is built for ruggedness and will take harsh weather conditions also. i own a P99 in 40s&w and wouldn't trade it for many other handguns. i always carry my HK with me though because it's what i feel most comfortable with.

browning makes very nice pistols also. i have a hi-power in my collection as well.
I would definately stay away from the Ruger Mark II because of cleaning issues. As far as a 22 pistol, you could always get a conversion kit if you're not going to be shooting competition.
who the hell needs a scope on a 22 anyways. you only need a good sight for short distances. we aren't talking about a .223 that can do hundreds of yards if sighted in properly. this is the setup he could get easily for under 500 with the sight.

Thanks!!
yeah but he doesn't know what he's talking about. a .22 is handgun will be absolutely useless after 50 yards even with a scope. the drop off will be nearly impossible to keep track of esspecially if there is any type of wind. you can get a fiber sight instead of the red dot sight.
i'm suggesting these things out of experience. you only need a scope on a rifle or smg, not on a small caliber handgun. plus if he really really wants a scope (which would be stupid) then the weaver rail attachment would allow any type to be put on the pistol.
