Default Handgun Carry

I'm currently looking for a good semi-small, semi-auto pistol for concealed carry (with permit of course!), and to stash in the Z on trips.

Have any of you found a good spot to hide your gun in your car?

All my current handgun are large framed, and I havent tried many smaller handguns.

I'm looking in the 500 or less price range.

Ideas?

thx

I think under the false floor in the glove compartment would be a good place.

If you have a permit to carry a concealed weapon then you must know something about the care and handling of a firearm. But I could be wrong since your location is Mississippi. If you don't, I suggest that you take a NRA course and learn more about handguns. After talking with other owners and firing different guns then you can make an intelligent choice.

As far as hiding a gun in your car goes, I don't think that is a good idea. If you feel sufficiently threatened to get the CCW permit then carry the weapon on your person and keep it concealed -- concealed means out of sight not out of reach.

What does Mississippi have to do with it? It's legal here to carry a handgun loaded inside your car if you are over 21.

I have grown up around handguns all my life, and own several. Proper care and handling of a firearm is not my concern in this case...

I'm polling the audience to see if we have any concealed carry owners here and to see what they think about their chosen setup.

I do want to keep it within quick reach. I was going to spend some time this week searching the car for a place where I can have it hidden and be gotten too quicky. Perhaps under the drivers seat in a holster attached to the bottom of the seat....

The hidden spot in the glove box would be good for leaving the car unattended. Also the spot for the sub would be a nice hiding spot for items, but I plan to fill it with a sub so that's not really an option.

if u have a ccw license, why hide your gun. it does no good to be in the glove box or hiden when and if u need it.
id say a glock 26 or 27 would be a nice conceal weapon. both can be had for less than $500.

I carry the Taurus PT Millenium 111 9MM, 15 round mag. Fits easily anywhere. It is one of the smallest 9MM's out there.

Exactly what is the criterior that has to be met to get a conceal carry permit? I know in NJ, it's next to impossible.

What state you live in has everything to do with whether or not you can get a CCW at all and then what is required of you, i.e. personal history and training. Every state has different laws governing this.

CA is very different than MS in that it is very difficult, to almost impossible, for an "ordinary"citizen to to obtain a CCW permit. I have one, but I am a retired police sergeant. I don't "pack" all the time but if I am going somewhere that I feel is not very safe then I will carry. The center console as pictured in the previous reply is a good spot for when you are in your Z but I would not recommend leaving a gun in the car when the car is unattended. If you don't have a permit to carry on your person then you have to leave the weapon in the car and assume the risk that goes with leaving a firearm in a "relatively" unsafe location.

As far as what kind of gun to get, I think that is a personal choice just as what kind of girl friend to get or what kind of of car to buy. As I suggested above, you need to become familiar with the handling, care and cost associated with the different types and makes of guns and then make your choice.

I'm looking at buying a Walter P99 Masterfulks. Its the gun bond used in the past couple of movies if you need a image in your head of it.

Depending on the version of it you get it shoots 9mm or .40 shells.

Glock 26 9mm is around your price range and is what I prefer. I also have a Taurus PT111 and it was much cheaper. I gave that to my mom for personal protection as she shot it well and I did not like it as much as the glock.

unless your hands are as small as a girls, i wouldn't suggest the glock 26. i held and shot the glock 26 and the springfield xd and i have pretty small hands. i liked the way the springfield felt a lot better than the glock 26.heres a pic and for 100 less than the glock, you can't beat it. it has so much more safetly features.

I had an H&K USP40 Compact and it was nice. Very pricey to do anything to though (night sights, light, laser etc..) so it may not be what you are looking for. Just FYI

Here in MS all you need for a permit is a clean record, some wait time, and something like 150 bucks. It has to be renewed every 4 years, but the renewal fee is less.

I dont like to leave any guns in the car when unattended if I can get around it. This is why I want the permit. I would much rather have it on me, than risk it falling into the wrong hands while left alone in my Z.

Currently when I travel I've been putting my Beretta 92 in one of the little slots behind the seats. It fits in just right, but its sort of annoying to get out while sitting in the drivers seat.

My brother has a P22 thats pretty fun to shoot.

I've read some not so nice reviews of the P99 lately, but its around the right size.

i just picked up a springfield XD9 subcompact stainless also. i couldn't recomend this pistol more highly. i shot a glock 26 and couldn't get use to the grips. the XD is so much better for me than the subcompact glocks.

my other hand guns, HK USP 45 stainless, Beretta 92fs inox, S&W 38spl (always my backup on my ankle) glock 19, kimber ultra carry II, khar mk-9 and now my springfield xd-9 subcompact. only thing about the springfield is holsters are hard/expensive to find. i sometimes use my belly band for it but most of the time use my blade-tech small of the back holster.

i have a fobus roto mount to the bottom of my drivers seat for my HK, all my other pistols fit in either the compartments right behind the seats or in the center console. if you want the quickest access to your pistol when you are driving then you don't want your pistol on you as it will be very hard to get to it.

How is the trigger pull on the XD?

Is it single action, or double action?

I like the size and feel of the S&W Sigma, but I absolutely hate the triggerpull...

Usually I perfer external hammers, but I may go with an internal one this time.

internal is so much better for concealed carry. less snags and accidental fires. the trigger on the xd-9 is very smooth and crisp. it's a double action only pistol of course.

Default Wrong Forums?

I dunno but perhapse you're asking your question on the wrong forums... I would ask on a handgun forum personaly. Coming to a Z board and asking aboue CCW might not get ya the best results. Btw I agree with Zcool if you're going to carry in a car, keep it on ya. How fast will you get to it if you have pull the passenger seat forward, open the glove compartment, lift the fake bottom.... Find a holster that's comfy while driving... Anyway that's just imho.
