Question AR-15, any one build theirs?

I am to the point where adding $500 here and $500 there in car mods really has become just a way to spend extra cash. Aside from the next round of major modifications to the car I want to *spend*, *waste*, *invest* my spending money on something other than the car.

For whatever reasons I decided that I would sorta get back into firearms, a longtime hobby of mine before the Z. While firearms are not typical investments, it is a far cry from the waste of money put into the car. That being said, I must keep my tinkering level up so I cant just simply buy a firearm. I have decided to build one. Sure I have taken my others apart for modifications or cleaning, but I have never built one. I think the AR-15 is an awesome platform to start building.

I have spent more time on the ar15.com over the last few days than all the Z boards and it is a nice change.

If any of you have built one, please tell me about it and show some pics. If you have an AR-15 that you did not build, you can still tell me about it and show some pics.

I went to a gun show last weekend and ended up buying a FAB-10 AR. Unfortunately, I live in Kali. I'll post pictures after the 10 day waiting period.

I wish I have the know how of building one and would love to see yours after you're done.

My user name @ ar15.com is also zyl8tr.

I look forward to seeing pics!

I am sure I will post up pictures when its finished. I hope it will be done by Christmas time. I have no clue how long parts takes. All we have are a background checks that take 10 min here in TN. Only one part requires a FFL and background check. The rest I can order normally off the internet retail stores.

I bought a glock 26 last weekend, and the shop had several AR-15's sitting up on the rack looking pretty.

Maybe in a few months....

I'm interested to see how much building one costs vs buying.

I love my 26.

I think I could actually buy one cheaper these days . . .well I know I can as I went shopping today. I still want to build one. They had new colts and bushmasters in stock from $800 to $1500. I figure to build one close to the $1500 Bushmaster it would cost around $1000 with top notch parts. Either way I really only wanted to spend around $800. Like all things of this nature it looks like I will be spending more than I wanted. Oh well. You only live once.

OK here is what I have got together so far.

LMT Upper, LMT Back-up iron sights, 2 30 round LEO mags and one 20 round LEO mag. I installed self leveling followers and the mag pulls . . .haha I love $3 parts.

Are you looking to upgrade the parts themselves or are you talking about scopes, lights, handrails, stocks?

Heh. My action blocks are sitting over UPS as we speak (first build). Slowly collecting the parts for what'll be a Dissipator-style carbine.

Here's the target:
16" RRA barrel, shaved gas block
12" Daniel Defense free float rail handguard
Magpul M-93R stock (group buy over ar15.com)
Mega lower
A3 upper
Phantom 5C2 flash hider
Flip up front and rear sights
Possibly an Aimpoint or EOTech sight, bipod.

How much for the fab10? Make? Pistol grip? I cant bring myself to buy one but just curious what they are going for at the shows. Damn stripper clips. Ruins 1/2 the fun.

A topic I havent research much but would be interested in knowing about is if the California AWB has reduced crime commited with AWs since 1993? I think it was 1993 it was enacted? I gotta get out of this state.

Here is a picture of my M-16 from many years ago. I believe the nomenclature on that rifle was AR-15 XM-16. It's hanging from a tree right in the center of the picture.

What people do with guns? Well I for one collect some guns for display purposes, I also have been shooting in competition since '92 and have been all over with my school and shooting solo. I also carry a gun for protection and go hunting when I can get off work. The type of guns in this thread can be modified to be used for hunting, defense, or competition. The AR model rifle is very versatile, and it just looks damn cool

PS> don't turn this into an anti-gun/anti-hunting debate, sorry in advance if that was not the intention of your question.
