Good choice, but the Haltech has a lot of features, maps, and options that your tuner needs to tweak for your car to run perfectly. As Alberto stated above, the tuner is just as important as the EMS. You need to find an expert tuner who is willing to put the time in to tweak all the available maps, not just fuel and timing... It's interesting now with the choice of EMS platforms out there, the bar has been raised from just getting a safe tune, to getting a "perfect" tune, with good part throttle response, good economy at cruise / closed loop feedback, cam control, boost control, traction control, etc.

Which is exactly what we have been doing for years I'm glad now that people can understand the difference between "tooned" and "tuned" .

Haltech Platinum would be my preference for obvious reasons: it brings the most to the table (sequential fuel/ignition, cam timing, CAN integration, bank specific dual AFR control, etc etc) while still being an unlocked unit so you aren't forced to travel to specific tuners and is competitively priced.

People are finally realizing what I have been saying about the UTEC's for years...
Still you can't compare them since they are in a different price range... Sub $1000 and I don't think there is anything that is going to compete with Utec.
Just got a Utec and now I know what people mean by learning to drive around it. I will eventually upgrade.

I have a Utec and my car runs and idles like stock even with 600cc injectors, no complaints, don't understand what you guys mean by saying it isn't a good EMU.

You are correct and I agree with you, I was directing my comments at people who used to say the UTEC is good enough and a standalone isn't needed.

Correct, when we use them in applications around 10PSI or less they are fine, preferably 8PSI. Once you go over that the resolution becomes poor, and is hard to make the car drive as it did when it came out of the factory.

Thats because you are running it on a supercharged car with low boost (relatively)
I went with something a little different in the Autronic SM-4 and absolutely love it. It took some time for Dave at F:T to figure out all the little quirks but it now runs flawlessly with pretty much everything you can get from many of the other top of the line EMS'
If I had to do it again, I would go with a standalone that is widely accepted. Im using the F-Con Vpro now and it is a pain in the ass to have someone tune it at your discretion.
There's one tuner in the Houston area that has the software to run the Vpro. The next one is in Austin, then Dallas. So 3 tuners in a 300 mile radius

you really don't notice that the UTEC isn't that smooth until you drive an F-Con Car

dont get carried away... UTEC still the main choice of the piggy backs...good enough to control fuel to ~500-550whp depending on the tuners abiility and drivers habbit.
not everybody can fork out the coin for a stand alone
my personal choice for standalone is ProEFI...
but i got respect for Haltech and Vpro as well, many great vendors support it.
OP should go with what ever his tuner recomends and what is more accessible locally as well.

I agree, thats what standalones do. Standalones can make bad tuners look good too.
FOr the utec to be as "dialed in" as the fcon it would requeire way too many hours of tweakin( and probably still wouldnt be as smooth).
I'm glad now that people can understand the difference between "tooned" and "tuned"
