Default New Stillen Supercharger Tuner Kit...

Hey Guys,

I did some searching on here and didn't find anything on this kit:

It looks like a decent kit since it comes with vortech supercharger and cooling built into the intake manifold itself. Anyone have any experiences with it or any suggestions? What do you guys think?

Wow...No one has any thoughts or comments about the kit? I'm wondering if that is a good or bad thing.

Its not a bad kit and I like Stillens stuff and Vortech makes a solid product.

If you're truly in the market for a supercharger consider a turbo too...Itd be wise to research what others have done on their builds. Research, make a plan, and make a budget.

Thanks for the insight. I've been researching everything from TT to Nitrous. I'm actually skipping the Nitrous even though the bottle stares me in the face every night I go home. It's not easy to resist using it.

I'm considering the Stillen SC since I'll be doing track days and cooling is of concern. I've seen people put down more than ample power down with the vortechs (700+ with supporting mods/tune). The power curve is linear and predictable which is great on the track. Although, my original intention was to go with Greddy TT setup. I'm not built yet, so the boost would be set relatively low. But I'll definitely take what you've said into more serious consideration. Thanks.

Hey Dragon,I have been doing my research also on nitrous vs.supercharger vs. turbo.
I have a base 2008 HR and i am doing my build from the ground up.I am doing brakes/suspension/differential/clutch/intake.hfc/injen cat back...then considering the next leap.
I really would like to hear from the forum #1 Is this a reliable kit? What should i do to my lower end to assure 400-450 hp will not result in issues down the road.I have done research but i'm not doing the nitrous...tt is a bit above what i want to spend.I like the "bolt on" aspect of the stillen sc.....flame on.

Mine is an '05 Z. You are probably right. I see separate entries for the 370z though on the site. Some are for 370 and others 350. They may have goofed it up. Sorry about the confusion guys.

I have been running this kit on my 07 z for a couple of months now and I love it . Like others have said the power is very linear , I'm on a very conservative tune due to my higher mileage engine . My car dynoed 360 whp using a uprev tune. which is about 430 h.p .

The only issue I've had with the kit was a faulty throttle body cable that caused the car to go into limp mode. I ordered a new cable from stillen and the issue has been fixed. For your 05 z the vortech kit is what you should look into.

OP,

I have a 2007 HR 350z now at about 60K mileage. Three years ago (Summer 2016), I had a local shop install the same Stillen/Vortech you have above, i think mine was also called Stage 2? Something like that. I have some non-HP supporting mods in the engine, hi-flow cats, and a motordyne exhaust. I wanted a conservative tune since this my daily driver and only car, I have about 400 rwhp and 315 tq. Performance wise I'm very happy with it, and I don't abuse the car. Fun highway driving only.

However, I have had multiple problems with the kit.

Problem 1:
A few months after I bought it, Stillen came out with upgraded Throttle Body Extension cables but deigned not to mass inform their customers. These cables were improved to have a much thicker gauge since the original ones were crimping. Crimping may, and in my case did, cause the engine to not turn on, or go into 'limp mode'. We had to buy the new upgraded cables for $140 and install them. Still, this required a tow and a few days down time. All sets bought post winter 2016 will have these cables

Problem 2:
Maybe about 6-12 months after that, it happened again. Was driving just fine, the next morning for work, car turns on, then heavily lurches, dashboard is now a xmas tree. I get it towed to same shop, the check engine light is a P1239 code. This is a very famous code for this error, its all over google and Z forums. After conducting forum research, the 'new' cables Stillen provided still are susceptible to heat and electrical interference, so a heat/EMI sleeve was placed over the cables.

Problem 3:
This morning (May 14 2019), the car went into limp mode again. Jesus ****ing christ what now? After several attempted restarts all fail, I call a tow. An hour later, the second the tow gets here, I start up car just fine and it seems perfect, like nothing is wrong albeit with check engine light. It's in the shop now, they are looking at it.

So overall, I'm kinda not that happy with Stillen. The performance is great, but this is my only car, so I care more about reliability. Something is seriously wrong with their electrical division, but its the same problem now 3 ****ing times over the past few years.

Your mileage may vary, but google "p1239 code stillen nissan Z" and you'll quickly find out i'm not the only one.
