Default cheap braided lines for oil coolers! look

Just after i ordered all the stuff for my oil cooler i find this:

http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant...gory_Code=OLA8

30$ for a complete 8an line with 90 degree fittings on the ends!

ah hell!

Just for 1 hose i have 50$ in fittings! it's crazy! 13$ per 90deg bend and then 10$ per my straight fitting to my cooler and oil plate.

Wish i would have found this earlier.

EDIT FOR MORE INFO:

ours is a 20x1.5mm

http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/p...Sandwich_Plate

this is what i have by mocal. it has 1/2" (8an) straight cut outputs that require an ORB (oring) straight 8an fitting into them.

It says thermostat opens at 160 and full open by 180. They also have just adapter plates without thermo.

These are really going to pump someone up:

http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/p.../OilCoolerKits
full oil cooler kit for 180$ with 10an lines! This is non-thermostat

http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/p.../OilCoolerKits
oil cooler kit with thermostat and 10an lines. 240$

that's just crazy! now, remember when you look at these they come with straight hose ends. If you need a 90 deg fitting you can also get them from that store.

That's insane deals!

ya, i guess i could return my order since i haven't even received it yet but that's kind of a pain. Might as well keep it.

At least i helped out someone else.

Also, amazon is runnign deals on earl's oil coolers. I ended up getting mine for 35$ shipped brand new.

look in the earl's catalog because what some people think is a "great" oil cooler actually won't dissipate as much heat. The WIDER it is the more heat it will dissipate. So you don't need a 19 row just to get good heat exchange if it's wide.

look here:

http://www.holley.com/EarlsCatalog/C...?pageNumber=54

they give the sizes. pg 63 or so is the part numbers and sizes. I went with the wide one (9" wide core) with 10 row and it has just as much cooling effect as a 25row narrow with about 1/3 of the price. p123 has all the heat exchange numbers on it for you.

i couldn't believe that fittings are so ridiculously priced!

the thing that i'm still ok about is that these aren't "swivel" and the ones i purchased are....so at least i'm 1 up there if i have to split hairs.

hmm...might be worth you returning it then.

that depends on how close you need your lines to fit. these are only 48 or 60"

if you need something more specific to get it looking nice then building your own is the way to go. Where i have mine positioned i'll be just over 3 ft of line so a 48" would give me some slack but still look good.

Those fittings look like they are painted/coated steel and are permanent crimp style. Most "expensive" oil lines use aluminum re-usable crimp style fittings. There is a significant price difference between the two. just my 2 cents.

kinda has to be precise... but it looks like some of there fittings may be cheaper too.. Im gonna go over to my installers in the morning and see if its an potion to make it work.

we are building all our own lines. Nothing is premade

ya, if you are going for looks then i can see it but a lot of us that need an oil cooler are doing more than looking good. At 30$ a line with connectors it doesn't matter they are coated steel and crimped. I won't be taking the ends off and weight isn't an issue.

they sell reusable fittings but the ones on those lines are crimed permanent. Yes cheaper, but that's because shops have to buy the criming tools to make the lines. Once you buy that it's cheaper in the long run. That's how they can sell them for cheap and get away with it.

for a simple project on a budget these are great and will do their jobs: flow oil

I agree also this is a great price for oil hoses. I used to work in a Hydraulic shop and the crimp fittings is what most people bought.

I have a mocal 180* thermo plate. I purchased it a year ago and just now got around to this project. I think i got it from amazon.

Def go for the thermostat controlled ones though. On the highway just cruising my car usually sits at 160-170 oil temp so it would be crazy low if the oil would be always going through that cooler. Here in the midwest the summer nights can get chilly and i don't want 130* oil.

Since i decided on a thermostat controlled one i decided to go Mocal since they're proven to be good. If it was just a sandwhich plate then a cheapy will work. I still want to say mine was only around 80$ish

^ Thats good for a car used daily occasionally, etc as well...........

for those that are primarily/strictly track cars then a thermo one isnt needed i would say....especially in a hot climate...

thats be safe to say no?? discuss???
