The VR6 engine has been widely used by VW(&Porsche in their Cayenne)
since the early 90's.I too don't fully understand the logic of this
swap other than its "another mountain to climb".The stock turbo VR6 is not gonna produce a huge amount of performance over what some mods that
could be done on the VQ engine. Now,if mods were done on the turbo VR6,
it has been common to get 400HP out of the results.Negatives are awful
MPG of the VR6 engine and high prices for parts.A positive is the fantastic
exhaust note of the VR6.If you have ever hear a R32,you'll know what I mean.

This is only gonna be one question that needs answering to make this swap work.Back in the day when I had a 57'Ford,dropped in three different engines
ending with a 427,It was just a matter of yanking the old one out, fabricating some motor mounts(maybe some cutting),welding up an exhaust that would
work and hooking up the linkages&juice to the engine.Turn the key,it started up.You were good to go.
This is just not possible with all the various management systems in today's
cars.
Anything is possible.
Come to think of it,I never heard the results from the guy that posted about a year ago...putting a Taurus SHO engine in his Z.You got to wonder if he's
cruisin around in this hybrid or,still trying to make it work?

The VR6 sounds awfully close to the VQ when it comes to note. I have read that the firing order is the same. Sounds like the op is doing a turbo swap VR6 so he should be able to make power.

OP, whats the plan for the filter? Since it is not like the original VQ, does a relocation kit exist? Is the filter located in a spot you can actually get to with the front crossmember? Filling is going to be a pain too with the filler cap so far back in the bay.

Interesting.

VR6's sound much better than VQs, not even close.

Aside from that and space constraints (when an issue), no idea why you would do this on this platform.

I am not sure about the Haltech, but I know Cass007 used a ViPEC V88 o run both his VQ and now his LS. However I don't think a plug and play is available they were supposedly making one based off my car but I think Cass and I are still the only 2 guys using them on this platform.

Hal @ Dynosity would be the guy to ask about the Haltech.

+1 on contacting Hal at Dynosty. He can answer all your Haltech questions.

Interesting choice for a motor swap. Aside from wanting to do something different, are there any particular reasons for choosing a VR6? Any advantages or benefits with that motor versus a VQ or anything else?

I'm gonna check out that DeLorean build. My dad used to have a DeLorean. My love for sports cars started with his car. The shop my dad used to take his DeLorean to had one with a Buick Grand National swap IIRC. A big issue I remember with motor swaps in DeLoreans is that you had to add counter weights to the front of the car if you swapped a significantly heavier motor in that back end. I always thought that a TT VQ swap would be cool in a DeLorean.

This seems very costly and pointless.... For the money you spend buying the VR6 motor, fabbing pieces together, upgrading internals (or whatever you said earlier) you could have almost went with an LS swap..... Which is more horse power, parts are cheaper to find, and more information to help on the swap has been posted. I'm no rocket scientist, but I am an accountant, and this seems like a bad investment

I will be relocating the filter to it nice and easy to change, no big deal. I'll make sure to post everything as i go.

I paid $175 for this engine and you can find them between $300-800 all day long at a junk yard. A stock VR6 with a head gasket spacer will put down 550WHP with no problem. It was originally built to be a diesel engine, so it’s strong as hell. I sold the VQ35de for more than i have into the swap at the moment. You can build a 12V VR6 for MUCH less than a VQ35 the only high priced VR6 is the R32 because of being rare. I'm boring mine to a 3.0L and building the head with cams.

Sorry, the 12v VR6 sounds WAY better than the VQ35. Not even close.
