Weird pipe!!! Answered.
Hey Guys,
So I don't know a lot when it comes to forced induction, but with that being said, I have a single turbonetics kit. I was hoping to get a kind answer on what the this pipe does and why it makes my car sound like a old Murray riding lawn mower without a muffler. It's attached to what looks like a blow off valve except it's on the exhaust before the turbo. When I accelerate, even without the turbo engaged, my car sounds like a briggs engine. It sounds really annoying and awful. It didn't cause this until after I installed the 1000cc injectors and tuned it for E85. My tuner said it sounds like that now because the increased fuel being put into the engine, which is causing it to open more due to increased exhaust being put into the turbo. This sounds logical enough but for Christ's sake, How can I change it from sounding so awful? I am prepared for the blasts I'll receive from this question but I am prepared to accept them as long as I get a smart and correct answer. Thanks in advance guys.

We also added a AEM boost controller. I guess I should maybe look up how to test the valve on that pipe. Like I said it didn't make this sound until we went from 350cc injectors to the 1000cc, took the boost from 10 flat to 10-15-18 and tuned it for E85. So you think it's the valve that this little pipe is attached to? I ask because the valve on the intake works great, even makes the funny whistle sound when I left off the throttle.

Also, I had my wife rev it up to 3000rpm to see if it was blowing exhaust out that pipe and from what I can feel it's not blowing anything out. I honestly wish I knew somebody other than the turners close by to hear it because the tuners won't get in the car with me for safety reasons and I'm not really willing to let them drive it, not that can't handle it, just for insurance purposes mainly.

It's an open wastegate dump. You may not have it tuned right

I just had the car tuned again for the upgrades we just added. When the car hits full boost this little pipe screams so loud. After reading about the open waste vs closed waste, it seems a lot of people prefer the open vs closed due to it being so LOUD. I just hate how it makes my car sound like a mower without a muffle lol.

The more boost you make, the louder it will be when it opens. It won't open with your wife revving the car. It will open when you're on the dyno at full throttle. You won't wanna have your hand anywhere near it when it does... unless you want a 3rd degree burn. If you are able to turn your boost down to 10 from 18, it's working. If it wasn't working, you'd be running whatever boost the wastegate spring is.

Oh ok cool. The boost controller and boost gauge both register the 18 psi, so I guess everything is ok. It's just a sound I'm not used too is all. It is funny going under an overpass and flooring the throttle just to watch everyone jump side ways. I like to pull up along side a loud Harley and make them jump off the seat. Never gets old. Thanks for your answers guys, you all have been an awesome help.

You can recirculate back into the exhaust but you will increase back pressure and reduce spool but how much it affects depends on your downstream exhaust set up . If you are not in boost then you should not be dumping exhaust through there. It could be that your wastegate is leaking or the spring pressure is not high enough to keep closed even under light throttle (but strong enough to allow you to make your target boost).

The tn kit already has a port where the WG is suppose to bypass to after the turbo. Whoever you bought the car from put the WG 180 degrees and open dumped it and blocked off the bypass.
To fix it the way the kit was designed is a PITA especially if you do not have that pipe.(I have installed/uninstalled this kit about 3 times)
