Wow looks pretty good I didn't know anyone mad pistons for the VH... Hopefully it comes along well the whole setup probably will cost less then a built vq. Also did you buy the 300zx adapter plate yet?

You probably already know this but nicoclub.com has a good amount of info on VH's. You might wanna check it out. I was planning on doing a VH swap in my S14

how will the v8 fit within the engine bay of the G? Does it require you to get stroker kit looking hood?

Yes, I'll be converting to throttle cable but that's not difficult at all. I'm more worried about the oil pan not clearing the sway bar but I'll end up modifying one or the other. I've seen a few people running dry sump so that's an alternative.

Compression is 9:1

Target completion time is end of year. I'm hoping for sooner but I believe 3 1/2 months might be enough.

I have an alternate 6MT tranny around but I'm sticking with the VG tranny for now.
I'd like to get a V160 getrag.

Yeah, I have a few posts on nico and have researched a bit on there about the VH/VK.

Nobody really makes pistons for the VH, we had them made to order although I'm sure manufacturers will catch on since the VH/VK is becoming a pretty popular swap for different cars.

I know a guy here in Orlando putting a VH in an S13 and running a GT-r awd tranny. Should be nice...

I'm fully stocked with these.

...they're not rare at all.

Only thing is that VH's are old and most have tons of miles and need nearly everything replaced.

Tecni,

Just curious... The only other G35 I know of with a Q45 engine swap and twin turbos is Top Secret's car, and Smoky used a VK engine. Was that car your inspiration for your project?

I think it has been a couple years now since Smoky built that car and ran it on the autobahn at 200+ mph. I'm kinda surprised that we haven't seen a least a couple guys/shops here in the US try to do a similar build with a Q45 V8 since. I always thought that Top Secret car was absolutely badass. It showed it was possible to fit a V8 and I thought it would spawn other V8 equipped G's and Z's in both NA and FI form.

Good luck! I look forward to seeing your updates and final results!

Well I was looking to do do something a little different so I began looking into the RB26 swap but found too many people had already done that, also, lack of parts availability kept me looking for other alternatives. I even considered picking up a 2JZ-GE but going that route would have been somewhat sac religious. Finally I laid eyes on TS's VK swap and realized it couldn't be that hard. Eventually I ended up at the salvage yard and picked up a high mileage VH for a very reasonable price.

Why VH over VK? I don't know... Oldschool rules?

Funny you should mention the 2JZ engine...

I am going to be looking into the swap this winter. I have a 2JZ-GE engine (which is what I would most likely get due to the cost) that I will more then likely use this winter to try making an adapter plate so it fit the 350z 6-spd. All of this will be after I finish my Z33Art Supercharger kit.

So far I have contacted some companies that make flywheel/clutch combos for the Z/SC300/IS300/Supra non-turbo to get a Z clutch retrofitted to a 2JZ flywheel plus the thickness of the adapter plate.

Good luck on your VH swap!

forget the VQ 6speed and just get a V160 or V161. It will bolt right up.

Hefty price tag though... $2,700 but will handle 1000+ hp

Yeah that is why I'm gonna just try using the 6spd for the time being if I go this route this winter.
