Help me with a G35 argument with a co-worker!!

So there is a buddy of mine here at work that has a 2003 G35 sport. (it has the OEM Brembos so i think that's the sport package) and three discussions keep coming up.

1) He swares up and down that his G35 was 100% built in Japan and imported over here to the states. Although there is nothing by looking at the car to suggest it's anything but a USDM model. (not right hand drive, etc.) I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure the Z's and G's, of that time, were assembled here in the states. If anyone has a link to support this i would greatly appreciate this. I don't want to just tell him "the forum said" lol.

2) He says they only made 5500 G35 Coupes in 2003....which leads to the next debate....

3) I have a 2003 Z Touring coupe 6mt. He has a 2003 G35 Sport 6mt. And he claims his personal property tax assesment (Which assumes average milage for the year) was $20,000. Mine was $14,600. Now i can see it being an Infinity being a grand or so more. but again, his argument is that because they "only made 5500 G35 coupes that year" and it's "limited edition".

This really isn't a game of who's is bigger then who's. but we're all sick of hearing about it and if nothing else i'd like to get the facts from some G owners that know their cars way better then i do.

his G35 was assembled in Tochigi, Japan. I don't know how many were produced for 03.

Are you guys really arguing over this? Your coworker is a douche and so are you for even caring.

1) 95% parts content from Japan, 5% USA
Assembled entirely in Tochigi, Tochigi, Japan, as 350zHalleck stated.

2) I have no idea

3) Nothing was limited about it. First year cars never have strong production numbers due to them being a trial run - what went right, what went wrong, did it sell, etc. There is no such thing as a limited G35. Bottom line is his car is worth more, holds its value more, and property taxes are based on where you live - Garner NC costs more than Zebulon NC, which are both in Wake Co., while Durham NC costs more than the other two.

Vin numbers from vehicles built in Japan start with a letter J.

Not really arguing over it. He's just one of those guys that's way to caught up with the name of having an Infinity. And goes around down talking anyone with a Nissan, eventhough they are essentialy the same. And i'm just tired of hearing about it.

1 - made in japan, so is the Z

2 - who cares, there are a ton of g35's out there, its not special

3 - G's have held their resale value a lot better than Z's, 2003 G's still can get low 20's, whereas a 2003 350z is lucky to pull high teens on resale. The infiniti badge does hold some value to a lot of people.

In the end its the same damn car except 2 more seats and slightly longer.

I don't see much drama in this thread at all.

I believe there were a little over 12,000 G35 coupes in 2003. I took delivery of my 03 in April 03, which I ordered in Nov 02.

When it comes down to it, your buddy is a tad ignorant and arrogant. No big deal and you shouldn't feel a need to "correct" him or put him in his place. What do you really have to gain in doing that?

What do you care... just be sure to tell him how much faster Z's are then G35's. When your driving right by him in a race he'll forget all about that bs he talking. I havent raced one single G35 that was NA that couldnt even begin to hang with me. Its no race, there pigs plain and simple. Even my buddy just bought a Rev-Up G35 and hes even modded it already with exhaust and Z-tube and he cant even begin to race me. From a standstill I get 3-4 cars of the bat and keep pulling. On the highway it gets a little closer but still he has nothing.

Tell him the 03 G35's are REALLY Slow! limited edition indeed....THE SLOWEST!!

It's possible to settle the argument with just looking at the VIN.

1st digit will be J, that means it's built in Japan. If it was US, it would be 1; Canada 2, Germany D, and I can't recall more off the top of my head.

The last 6 digits denote the actual number of that particular vehicle when it came off the assembly line. If your coworker's G35's last 6 digits is higher than 005500, even his car is proof there's more; and if his number is not that high, then you probably could find one for sale online that has a VIN that is higher.
