Default So I took off the anchor other wise know as the Z muffler and..

So I am looking to do a simple muffler delete to get a better tone out of my Z.

I unbolted the 500# muffler and drove my z around my track to see how much better the sound was before I hit the exhaust shop for the muffler delete. I hear NO difference..

I still have the cats and res, but really don't want to go straight pipes because Ive heard some Z's with it and its horrible.

My buddies have muffler deletes or exhausts which are basically the same as the resonator to pipe but just stainless and it sounds great..

Why is my Z so quiet??

Also I plan on going single res to pipe and not splurge for an exhaust for future plans of getting a mid type turbo. Don't wanna pay for an exhaust if I might need to replace it after the T kit. Or else I would just look for a exhaust kit.

Is there something im missing? Why didn't this change anything but weight?!

that muffler was at least 35#.

What kind of "track" do you have near the house to do muffler testing!?

In my experience, removing the Z mufflers makes a huge difference in the amount of sound produced. My HR-powered Z33 racecar was tuned at UpRev in Austin and after several pulls, the police showed up b/c a neighbor several miles away complained about the SCREAM at WOT. BTW- the racecar uses test pipes, a Stillen Y-pipe and Magnaflow single exhaust.

Listening to any exhaust at idle, or just above, gives little indication to the volume of sound produced.

You removed the muffler and heard no difference? You're deaf or there's a dead cat in your midpipe...

Straight pipes don't sound bad, unresonated/incorrectly sized exhaust systems sound bad.

Thanks^ appreciate it

And by track I mean my housing track and warehouse district just down the street.

I'm not going WOT, but did do a couple good accelerations as I would in trsffic or highway to see what it sounds like.

Still sounds like after about 3k the sound output is buffed a little, as to where I thought that's where it would get louder with out the exhaust.

The cats and the resonator cut a majority of the sound, I must say in my experience the muffler deleted does add a major difference in sound, the resonator gone makes it even more noisy and straight cats is obnoxious.

Take out the resonator and add a smaller one will make a big difference.

That's what Im thinking. Im glad I tested it in the driveway before just going to the muff shop to have it done.

Im thinking just getting 2.75 from the cats.

3" seems a little big and hollow.

Mine is like 2 1/4 inch from the cats, it makes a noticeable difference... Duel exhaust... If your doing single I would go 3 inch... If duel I wouldn't go over 2 1/2

Still not quite sure. I love some looks of both set ups.

Im still on the fence and like I said I cant really make any decisions until I puck up the FI kit and see what I'll even be working with and whats feasible then.

Well if, you're going "conventional" twin turbo, you won't have much to worry about soundwise since the turbos quiet everything down and you can then run a large diameter dual system aft of a x-over pipe. And if you go mid- or rear-mount, the kit *should* have custom exhaust (and all the feedback plumbing) included for proper installation.

Of course, that all changes if you opt for S/C where you'll actually need a real exhaust system to quiet it down.

Unless you want all that racket.

ANY turbo(s) will quiet the car down.

Didn't know that. Good to know.

So maybe I will just run straights then post turbo. Since you gatta delete cats with FI. Maybe single res. All I know is straights with N/A sounds like poop.
