There was some question about whether the tank had to be removed....I guess that's a big NO?

Thanks Gents. Sounds like it's pretty painless...someone in that thread said an hour or so...no way the tank is coming out in that amount of time.

Letters for this go out next week. Heres part of it:

Reason for Recall

The fuel filler hose may crack and result in fuel leakage from the hose while refueling. If an ignition source is present, a fire could occur. In addition, fuel vapor hoses may crack and cause the malfunction indicator lamp to come on.

What Nissan Will Do

Your Nissan dealer will replace the fuel filler and vapor hoses with new ones. This free service should take about three hours to complete, but your Nissan dealer may require your vehicle for a longer period of time based upon their work schedule.

There were numerous reports of this but VW wouldn't accept that there was a problem, and in the cases where the sudden deployment caused a wreck, VW would refuse to fix the car... On the same cars they had problems with the seat heaters burning people and starting fires as well.

VW has the worst customer service in North America...every numbnut knows that.

I tracked down some info on this recall.
this affects cars Manufactured From: 04/17/2002 - 11/03/2003

It is VERY invasive - please refer to the link

I feel bad for those with FI setups, exhaust, suspension, or even wheels that have to go in for this. My car is not affected by the recall - being a late model 04. I would have SERIOUS issue letting the dealer rip into my car like that. I think my blood pressure would be severly on the rise if I went to the dealer for this.

Since its not mandatory. I guess we are not at high risk of failing. Is there any documented failures? I know there are a # of Zs with high miles.

Damn, no way in H3ll I'm letting them tear into my car like that. I'll take my chances. My Z is well kept and never exposed to harsh environments/conditions, so I think I'll be fine.

I understand where you are coming from, but just keep in mind, recalls aren't made up. And one that is this labor intensive must have some 'substance' behind it.

Best of luck

Not meaning to ask a really dumb question...

Does this apply to the VIN#'s ending in 120447 through 160537 or is it 1 through 120447 and 1 through 160537?

I was confused reading the recall notice and applied vins.

In reading the notice it appears to me that there are two series of VIN numbers covered by the recall. the first is for number "3T" (for model year 2003, I presume) 000001-120477 and the second is for 4T000001-160537. Therefore, if the last eight digits of your 2004 is, for example, 4T051227, it would be included in the recall. If the VIN were 4T170538, it would not. I just went through this with Nissan USA and the company seemed to confirm the above.

My 2004, regretably, is included. However, in reviewing the 24-page service bulletin, I am rather reluctant to have the dealer take my car apart. More to the point, I am concerned that the dealer may not put is back together as it was. As mentioned by someone above, it appears that the entire rear end of the car must be taken apart to gain access to the affected rubber hoses.

Here's a question to the group: if one ignores a factory recall until one actually has a problem, will the Nissan still perform the job even if the car is off of waranty? Let's say three years pass, would Nissan still perform the recall at no charge?

LOL....at least I now have an excuse to bring my Z out of hibernation.

I just hope they don't scratch the car up or make it worse.

It has been 6 months since Nissan ordered the rear axle clicking parts, and I still don't have then.

I figure a year from now I might get the gas tank fixed.
