Just bought my 07 350z about three weeks ago

had 3300 miles on it when I bought it

now have about 4600 miles


anyways .. Ive noticed a high pitched whine whenever I turn the ignition on, and sometimes when driving with a full tank of gas

I thought it might of been the fuel pump .. but listening around its louder in the engine bay .. any idea's if this is normal or not .. does the fuel return whine on the HR motors or is it something I need to take to the dealer and use my warranty

took a video with my cell phone .. just walked around the car to see where its loudest ..



might have to turn your volume up all the way .. but you can definitely hear it .. tried to be quiet except for opening the drivers door

Interesting.

Mine has a whine when it's running. Not nearly as loud as yours, and higher pitched, but audible from inside the cabin. I'll try a couple of things, and if I get any useful info, I'll post in here.

don't think the camera picked the noise up on the inside .. but you can hear it inside also

I just noticed it when I turn the ignition on in the garage when I roll down the windows or change some cd's out ..

Also when I go to work after filling up the gas tank it will whine the same way ..

I searched around the forum for similar problems and only found people that upgraded the fuel pump get the whine and it comes from the rear behind the passenger seat .. mine is coming from the engine bay, but can be heard all around the car

might try and get another video later from inside with ignition on / off

Heres two more video's

I've narrowed it down to coming from the back / top of the engine .. theres some fuel lines back there .. so I'm guessing it has to do with them ..

I'm gonna search around and see if theres a fuse for the fuel pump I can pull and make sure its fuel related and not something else in the jungle of wires and hoses in that part of the engine bay ..

Seems its normal for 350z's .. something to do with the electronics / coil when the ignition is in the "ON" position

Just to make sure though, anyone want to take a look and see?

did you end up finding what caused this. i got a pretty crazy whine on mine with 88k on her so im kinda looking at options

You know, this string basically ended six years ago.

FWIW, start out by posting the year of your car, any mods you've made, what kind of maintenance you've performed, and get way more specific about the problem you're having (where's the whine, what have you tried, when does it happen, etc.)

it can amaze you all you want i just bought this car and am having the same symptoms, Never saw what ended up being the answer so hey ask a question...but that makes too much sense right?
