I read the other threads and know that my oil pressure gauge is probably just sticking. But no one ever answered the question... Is it okay to drive while its sticking?

I started the car up today and the oil pressure shot over to the 120psi while idling. I came inside and searched the forums and found others have had this happen. I drove on it anyway to warm it up and the lowest it ever got was 70psi at idle and then would shoot above 120 while driving.

I know I need to get the sensor replaced but is it okay to drive on it until then? Also, someone said you can tap the sensor to fix it. Where is it located?

I would get it fixed soon as u can, but i dont see any direct problems with driving it like that, only that you won't know what the pressure is actually at. The sensor is located right next to the oil filter under the car. It has a wire and clip running to it. It shouldn't be on there too tight, and don't over tighten when putting a new one back on.

I was reading in another thread that it could be the oil pressure blow off valve... Is there such a thing? And does the sensor control that?

Agree. There are several possibilities here:

Oil pressure gage is broken - oil pressure is fine. Its OK to drive the car.

Oil pressure IS 120PSI. Not smart to drive the car. Troubleshooting involves removing oil pressure sensor, and connecting pressure gage and hose. This way you can directly check oil pressure. The result is the key to diagnosing the problem.

Mine is the same but it isn't the sensor, its the gauge or bad connection, tapping on the gauge sets it back to normal.

I just read on another thread... oil pressure relief valve. So I do believe this is actually a real thing...
