Default air conditioning ghost

Can someone explain to me why my air conditioner in my 2004 350Z automatically turns on when I am driving around? It just kicks on randomly? I am not driving the car hard, and it is not over heating by any means. Not a huge deal, but annoying. Any way to prevent this?

Thanks for any ideas....

I've had that issue ever since I bought my car in 05 so you're not the only one. Maybe a ground issue? Or possibly kinked/damaged harness behind the AC dials.

Thanks! Glad I am not alone!...It's weird - it seems to kick on when the weather is cooler. No problems on hot days or if I am getting my last run in around November before I store her. Today the temps are in the mid 70's and very pleasant. Open windows and flying down country roads and on comes the air!?!?

I had this happen to me...when it happens push/put some pressure on the area where the AC controls are. the trim not the button. If it turns off, then you likely have a loose connection in the back/inside. I think it is the white ribbon cable connected to the AC controls.

I'm experiencing the same AC Ghost on my 2003. I will follow JV350z's recommendation and post the results.

I've never had this problem in the z but I have had a similar issue in my Jeep, I replaced the AC & heater control unit and that solved the problem.

Default Follow up post to AC Ghost

I followed the recommendation provided by JV350Z. I pushed on the trim next to the AC/AUTO switch and the unit did turn on. After doing this the AC ghost has gone away. I will see what happens over the next week or two to see if the ghost returns. If it returns I will look into doing a visual inspection of the wiring and AC Auto switch.
