Default Odd Smell Under WOT

Hey all,
I'm looking for a lil guidance with my 08 Z. Stock intakes, OEM cats ( passenger side replaced at 56k ( car has 60k now ) with GReddy catback. When I get on it it smells like something hot, today it smelled like lit match. I had a rattle with my passenger cat which is why it was replaced and shortly after i got P0430 or whatever the bank 2 cat (driver's side) is code but that fixed itself somehow. I can't recall if i smelled it before the passenger cat got replaced or not. Plenty of oil in it and never burnt oil that i know of.

I'll try searching more but all the "exhaust" and "smell" threads are related to test pipes.

Thanks for any help!

UPDATE 10/28/14 I took my car to the dealer to have the code read and they are supposed to be calling me when the driver's side cat comes in.....

On the way home the SES light went off 0_o

I can't recall 100%, but I think I put 1/4-1/2 a tank of 91 octane in when I didn't have access to 93. I don't know if this would cause issues with the cat or not.... But I filled up with 93 before driving an hour down to the dealer.

Could be an exhaust leak...also the mileage isnt that high I know but personally I would have replaced both cats. If one was bad why wouldn't the other one be close...that type of thinking. You just replaced it bc of a rattle?

The dealership replaced it because of an internal rattle in the cat. And it was the 8 year 80k mile federal regulation that they replaced the one. And you know the dealer, why look into anything else when this is the only problem we see right now! ? (Don't get me started on those f*@ktwats)

I would love to replace them with ART pipes, but If it turns out to be something other than a leak or a cat issue, that money was "wasted" upgrading when another maintenance or repair problem needed attention.

Thanks for your response

Bringing this back to the top. P0430 reared its ugly head again. Have an appointment with the dealer Monday. Boo.

You have to take it to the dealer (unfortunately) for them to diagnose the rattle. They didn't replace the driver's side when they did the passenger because there was no code for the driver's side, nor rattle. Now that there is a code, they are ordering the driver's side cat for me

8 year 80k mile federal regulation is ZERO out of pocket cost to you, unless you get a rental car. If they give you ANY grief about it, whoop out your smart phone and google in 2 seconds and that should straighten them up. I think the dealer foots the cost for the cat, then is "reimbursed" from the gum'ment

I would REALLY like to just throw some ART pipes on there but if for whatever reason that isn't the cause, I don't want to be out that money.

Plus, I'm saving for coilovers since my OEM shocks are blowing/blown.

My '08 lost both cats by the time I hit 23,000 miles. Consider yourself lucky. Here's my rant:

I read that in my travels towards a "cure".

The dealer called me today and has the driver's side cat in, she's going under the knife again next Friday. I look at it this way if nothing else-It's cheaper for me to pay the gas to get there and back than to buy 25 feet of extensions (to remove cat bolts) AND new HFC or similar, AND they will have dealt with the demon bolts instead of me wrasslin em in my garage on jack stands. Plus I will have 2 near new cats if I need to put them back on or sell them.

Hopefully it's a quiet spring when I take her out of storage. I NEED new suspension and I'm not foolin with the cats anymore.
