Wierd Clutch sound/ problem
Hello, as the title states. was driving my Z tonight on the highway in 5th. heard a small "pop"...... 10 minutes later after I got off the highway and came to a stop I heard this very weird noise and felt it through the clutch pedal.
The best way I can describe this sound is crinkling of the silver foil paper when the clutch is DE-PRESSED/I can also feel it through the clutch pedal and makes a winding-up sound while driving in each gear..... I look up several youtubes of the clutch/pedal problems and doesn't seem to have the same sound......ironically on the way home some idiots were crossing the street, which I deemed it an appropriate time to put into neutral and give a rev to about 5k.... then apparently fixed the weird noise and feel. and of course it had to fix itself before I could even video tape it.... but I have a feeling it will come back in the near future... any idea what this could be (I tried my best to replicate the feeling and sound)
Update: so I started it after leaving it for a day and I heard that crinkeling-foil-paper sound ONLY when it started..... and was fine the rest of the drive..... maybe this is a sign that something will be going soon?
I have an 05 35th anni
ps. all the tranny is oem only have an exhaust and intake done......

I know I need a new clutch and flywheel, since mine hardly does its job and my transmission also grinds in 5th :/ so I'm trying to save my pennies the best I can :suici de:

but idk much about drivetrain mechanism
here's my personal situation if u can give me ur 2 cents
My clutch has these issues:
------rattles has a weird g-spot, makes a whiney noise, its really rough but gets squishy with 50+ miles of use or less on a hott day.. (that I know is probably the fluid but might as well do a flush when I swap the clutch..). Also when in first it starts to slip... its supper embarrassing when others are in the car or around it since it also make a gravel sound thats absolutely noticeable on an incline or when its warm...
My transmission has these issues:
-----when shifting into 5th gear it grinds on occasion and reverse is difficult to engage from time to time. Also I think that gravel comment applies more to the transmission than the clutch but like I said Im no expert...

Yeah mine makes that sound as well it's like a wooshing sound, very embarrassing.
Mine however doesn't slip. To check, go about 35 mph in 4th gear and floor it.. If your RPM's shoot up without speed going up then it's bad. Keep in mind clutches in our cars are expensive, hell any part for our car is pricey.
I however have no grinds, sometimes in cold weather 5th to 6th will.

Update:
Ended up going to Nissan performance specialist saying that the rattleing was that something within my clutch broke off and was rattleing around in there which then caused the whineing sound.... Im bring my car in tomorrow (friday) to get the clutch replaced witht the full exedy oem clutch kit with a aftermarket flywheel(notsure which one yet) that way they can get two birds with one stone, so to speak..... and my clutch was not slipping at all... it drove like normal but they said it was prone to just give out, so im STAYING SAFE

Similar experience
I wanted to share my experience with you in regards to my clutch. It happened one morning on my way to work. I was attempting to catch up to a porsche 911 carrera 4s. The issure happened with a very hard braking into a u-turn. Heel/ toe braking into third gear, I heard a loud "pop" over the sound of my radio.
Now I am alert after hearing this very odd sound and clearly became disinterested in the Porsche. I continue on my drive to work, making a stop at a drive-through. I depress the clutch as I creep up to the window and there is another sound. A very quick "click" and a few more faint "clicks".
Now I am very concerned. I ordered a new clutch and flywheel as it was about time for one, especially how I drive. I drove cautiously for the next few weeks until I could get to work on the car. I experienced a very minute' difference in the clutch feel.
After pulling the bellhousing away from the engine I found what my problem was. I was still on a Nissan factory clutch that uses a series of springs on the pressure plate. One portion of the spring on the 1st stage of springs broke off. The 2nd stage being the spring that engages the pressure plate seemed perfectly fine.
It seems the 1st stage is superfluous in the function of the clutch but, merely to remove the backlash in the pedal.
Perhaps this is your problem, you could aquire a bore-scope and inspect the clutch,or have someone do so.
I also have some pictures of the pressure plate if you would like to see what I am explaining.

If you went with a single-mass fly wheel and have never experienced one on a Z or in general. Be prepared for the gear noise. It's scary at first and you will never get used to it...

yea its was on when i send that last message, tbh doesnt bother me at all, just the vibrating pedal mostly when the car is reving down in a higher rpm range, or when I WOT it... but its getting re-taken apart to see if something was mis-aligned
