Exclamation Are Fuel Injector cleanings really worth it?

So today I went to my local auto shop to get my 07' HR's spark plugs replaced as I have almost 105K on the clock. The associate told me that he recommended a fuel injection cleaning for $110 + Tax. Includes a throttle body cleaning. Upon questioning the service, his little friend jumped in and reiterated how it makes a difference. He did say not doing it won't cause me to break down.

Should I do this or are they just trying to make a extra profit? Everything else seems fine with the car no problems.

This is more a question for each owner: do you purchase gasoline from a Tier I supplier like Shell or Costco? Or do you get it from any run-of-the-mill station that offers it for a few cents off and has no detergent package? There could also be some regional differences I'm not aware of, but that's speculation. For the record, I've never had fuel injection cleaning...

I just bought the car recently from a new car dealer. Have around 104.5K Miles. I have no idea how good of care/quality fuel the previous owner put in it. But I can tell you I usually get my fuel from Quick Chek near me. They get 93 Octane BP gas. Once in a while I'll go to Wawa for their 92 Octane.

So I guess it's not necessary?

Up to you- there's also other fuel injector products available if you need them. At $110, you're paying premium prices for a service you may or may not need.

If your talking about those off the shelf gas treatments, I'm not going near them. Even the manual says not to use them. Plus someone said the 350z's fuel injectors have a anti-stick coating on them that those things can damage. If anything I'd cough up the $110 and get it done right. But I'm leaning in the direction it's not needed. Any other definitive opinions?

I had my fuel system cleaned when I had my spark plugs changed. I did this at 50k miles. I could notice a difference when accelerating. Really much smoother than it had been before. I don't think it is necessary to do when changing spark plugs. It is up to you it's your car.

When I first took a "fun job" as a service-writer-then-service-manager at a national auto parts and service chain a couple of years ago, there was a campaign involving the sale of "fuel system cleaning service" which involved a full barrage of a number of chemicals and much noxious fumes being sucked out of the shop.

We did a fair number of them over the time I was there and customers reported that their cars DID run better.

But I can't say how long such a treatment held true or whether it was indeed necessary nor at what intervals. Even manufacturers don't say it's a necessity but every dealer service department will try to sell you the service based on the mileage when you bring the car in.

That said, I go with dkmura's thoughts that it's up to you and like him, FTR, I've never done it, instead, sticking to Tier 1 gasolines, Chevron, Unocal (whoever owns them now).

As a matter of fact, OP, go get it done then report back please. Take one for the team and be the my350Z guinea pig of the week. Heh heh.

usually, you wait until you suspect that it may help because of rough idle, etc etc.. but getting it done for the fun of it? hey it's your money

Have them flow tested first. Have them cleaned if the results are below spec.

This can only be done by removing the fuel injectors first and having them sent out to a FI specialist like RC Engineering. If anyone decides to do this, you may as well pay to have the injectors cleaned and flow matched. They'
ll provide documentation back to you.

This is usually only for race applications and I had a set done by RC a few years ago. Never installed them as they are my backup set and the primary units have never shown any problems or degradation yet.

In mine every 2 oil changes (10,000 km.) i clean the throttle body, intake and sensors and a ECU reset. It always seem to do a little. I havent changed the OEM spark plugs nor removed the injectors for proper cleaning yet. Always use shell 93 octane premium though.

My car being at 146K, I highly doubt people have done fuel injection service before me. What does it include? I just want to know how its done and what else needs to be done to complete a full fuel injector service. Thanks. Btw New to the Z Game and I'm learning as much as i can through out helpful inputs.

By yourself or did you take it somewhere else to get it serviced?

Because I'm cheap, I do mine twice a year.

Also I'm picky so I did a MSDS search on the top 5 to understand exactly what chemicals are in them. Berry man B12 has the best solvents. Techron is also very good, either will set you back $15. (tank additives) Gl
