so ive been having this random misfire problem code p0300 and im curious about coil packs which ones could I use on my 03 z? could I use some from new model z's maxima's frontiers etc other cars? I found some pretty decent price on ebay....lol but may people say just use used ones or good companys on ebay for a less expensive route please help! tahnks

yes I did! ngk iridium and I think im going to try to clean MAF and check the connection to coils cause it will act up ill start unplugging and touching things and some times itll run fine

If you're looking for stock packs for an 03, they are made by Hitachi. There's 3 or 4 Nissan/Infiniti's from 03-08 that use the same packs. There's quite a bit of aftermarket solutions also.

It seems to me if the coils were the coil packs it wouldn't be a random misfire but a constant on whatever cylinder is the issue. Makes me wonder about the CAS?

I'd tend to agree. Usually with a bad coil pack, it will lead you to the exact cylinder through an error code (e.g. p0302 Cylinder 2) versus a random misfire code. I'd start by exhausting some other options first (vacuum leak, maf sensor, spark plugs).

true but if its multiple cylinders it would throw p0300 random meaning multiple coil pack

No, that's not what it means. If one or more coil packs fail at the exact same time (which I wouldn't count on just yet), you'll usually still get the cylinder number. It doesn't automatically go into random misfire because 2 or more packs go. If it's able to give you the code on 2 or more cylinders, it will.

I'm just curious as to why you're convinced it's a coil pack? Not saying it couldn't be, but what have you ruled out so far? Changing all 6 coil packs at once seems like a bit of overkill if you haven't ruled out the easier options first.

Are there no vacuum leaks? Have you checked your maf sensor? How new are your plugs? If the plugs are due to be changed anytime soon, just change them.

You can unplug the cop's with the car at idle and see if unplugging one does not cause an idle drop, then swap that cop with a good cylinder if the problem moves it's the COP if not it's not the cop.

Just to expand here, stock ignition packs are made by Hanshin. Hanshin is a subsidiary of Hitachi. It's now Hitachi Automotive Systems Hanshin. Hitachi and Hanshin packs are going to be the same.

Hanshin also owns coil factory with Denso. If you get a Hanshin, Hitachi or Denso pack, they'll likely be identical other than the name on the box.
