2004 350z transmission swap
How's it going guys? I am new to forums, my names Rob. I recently bought a 2004 350z enthusiast and my 5th gear grinds anytime I shift up or down to it. It doesn't matter what rpms I am at it always grinds and only in 5th gear. From what I've read it is most likely in the synchros and I will most likely need to swap to a newer transmission. I am going to get it checked out by a shop and see what they say but, I have been looking into new transmissions and I was just wondering what near year transmissions are the least complicated swap with an 04?

Welcome and I'll give the same advice I give to all Z33 noobs about trannys. Before you commit to any kind of tranny change, try swapping out the tranny fluid to Redline MT85. It's a synthetic lubricant that fits Nissan recommendations on viscosity and has enough friction engineered in to allow syncros to operate properly.
It's a cheap and easy option rather that swapping your current tranny.

However, if you exhaust that option and still need a transmission, the unit you'll want is the CD009, generally the model on mid-2005+ production cars. Purchasable as new units from Nissan or several vendors that support this site... ~$1700.

I will try changing the transmission oil today. I also just started hearing a vibration in my shifter when its in any gear. Any idea of what that could be?

I agree with zakmartin and Mic.
As zakmartin states, feeling a vibration from the transmission is normal.
I had the CD009 transmission(that Mic mentions) installed in my 2003 350z for the same reason you mention. I was grinding when going in and out of 5th gear. The CD009 transmission is a big improvement over the original transmission in the 2003 and 2004 models. The newer transmission shifts more smoothly and is less “notchy.”

I was hearing a vibration but, it was just the shifter **** being loose. Is changing the transmission fluid a temporary fix or could it permanently fix my 5th gear grinding? Thanks.

if the fluid has never been changed, it is prob old and bleh. i will say that i am a firm believer in RedLine fluids. i changed the trans and diff fluid in my corvette last weekend... it only has 19k miles on it.. and i was amazed on how much quitter it is in the rear now (trans and diff are in the back, like a transaxle setup). you can get it off amazon for fairly cheap

One thing to consider is that the new model transmission is much better than what is in your car now.

I recently bought a 2004 AT Enthusiast model Nissan 350z, the transmission went out so I pulled a tranny out of a 2004 g35, turns out the tcms are different so my old transmission has 1 connector and the new one has 3, waste of money :/ so now I'm looking at a 2005 35th anniversary AT transmission, will this swap into my car with no problems? I'm ridiculously desperate at this point. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!
