Rear upper arm - ball join nut removal ?
Hey guys, I've just been doing some work on the car over the weekend, I manage to do one side with my impact wrench in short bursts, plus a bit of pressure downwards. However the other side isn't playing fair.
I tried many, many methods yesterday.
So I wondered if there is a specific tool to help remove this, and if so, please could you show me ?
I'll probably have to cut/split the nut for now and replace it.
It's this one on the right:
Many thanks for any tips on this.
(note, I'm removing the knuckles, thus need to not destroy the ball joints)

So whilst I'm waiting to see what you guys recommend, I decided to purchase a couple of tools that I don't have anyway:
A decent forged C clamp (always useful)
Ball joint separator (as shown in the vids, also useful to have)
Looks like that sort of technique might work.

One side came out like that, I used a jack under the spring cup, and then wedged a bar over the top and pushed down when I pulled the trigger on the impact wrench.
But the other side.. man, I tried and tried for hours
I'm guessing that's what you meant by cheater pipe ?
(note - I'm not talking about breaking the nut loose)

Had a similar problem with my front upper arm ball joint nut yesterday. I eventually got it off by over tightening it to jam the cone into the arm and lock it, then lube the threads with penetrant and remove the nut slowly with a spanner. I had also used a Dremel and a cut off wheel to cut a slot in the nut in an attempt to open it up slightly. That may have helped.
You could over tighten it until you either break the stud off or strip the threads, but that's a risky approach.

Cheers guys, at least I'll have some more ideas and tools to attack it with this time.
Plus one of the chaps in the UK is supplying me with some new nuts for it, just in case I have to cut it free.
I'd rather not apply neat due to the ball joint and potential damage, I'm not replacing it, just detaching the arm from the knuckle. Heat will be the last resort I think.
