Default Electrical problems?

My 05 Z was running fine until I got off work and it wouldn't start. It appeared the battery was completely dead because I had no dash lights and it wouldn't even try to turn over. I had a buddy hook up some cables and the dash lights flickered on and off but the car still wouldn't start. The taillights came on w/o headlights on and even stayed on after the key is out. After about 10 minutes it finally cranked up but after getting home it wouldn't start again and the taillights stayed on. There is also a ticking noise that has been happening since I got home for hours coming from behind the seats it sounds. Any ideas? Maybe alternator, faulty electrics?

Another crystal ball question. Have you load tested the battery, checked the connections, checked the alternator voltage? Can't help until you do.

If its completely dead I would guess his battery isnt even hooked up anymore and probably has a blue mushroom of shitola on the top of the terminal.

Hi Blake… The ticking noise you hear behind the seats might be the fuel tank controller. Anyway, it’s not necessarily the cause for your problem.

I’m guessing, but suspect your battery is shot. You can have this tested. Remove the battery and take it to a shop capable of evaluating it. You may also be experiencing a problem with the alternator. If the battery is OK, the fault may be with the alternator. Also, be aware that a faulty alternator can damage a battery. This stuff can get complicated.

If the battery and alternator are OK, you need to investigate a possible short in the system.

100% agree with spike on this, nearly all auto parts stores do free charging and battery tests. Take the battery out and go this route first!
