Quote from Fox Sports - "I understand the resentments directed toward De La Hoya. There's an ancient grudge against the pretty boy. It is said he's not Mexican enough. That he was overrated. Worse still, that his priority was commerce, not pugilism. After all, that statue is not a monument to De La Hoya, so much as his lucrative partnership with AEG, the firm that owns the Staples Center."
I never like Oscar De La Hoya, however he left the sport in the right moment. What are your thoughts about his career?
He will be missed. He was the face of boxing for years. Even though he lost a lot of his big fights, I still thought he was a pretty good fighter. He was great for boxing though, so I had to admire him for that. And hopefully he continues that, and bring us some good fights with his Golden Boy promotions
Boxing will be just fine without him. I do find him a little overrated as he lost a lot of his big fights, though I don't know anyone who can go through his resume undefeated. I didn't like Oscar that much, but I gotta give him props for fighting the best fighters.
