i just bought my tickets for august, i plan on going the entire month and am pretty excited. i plan on getting in my first one or two amateur fights before i leave and then i will get some more in when i get back. i will be training at tiger muay thai this year being that they offer a pretty awsome mma program but I'm really excited about the muay thai experience i will get too. hopefully i go back again so that i can go check out a real traditional muay thai camp. anyways, any one been? if so i would appreciate as many tips as possible. i am 23 and have never been out of the u.s. i have no idea what to expect

sh!t i never even seen this thread till now. i trained at tiger back in october of 08. it is an awesome camp. where abouts are you stayin?? if youre staying at the camp, make sure you go down to mommas bungalows right down the street to eat. best cooking ive ever had.
and rent yourself a scooter at the gym. youll meet up with plenty of people at the gym, and a lot of them go into town on the weekends. if you wanna see some weird sh!t, go to "a go-go" down at patong beach. they got a show there, where a chick shoots flames out of her cooch. its funny stuff. and its a good place to pick up hookers..............ive heard.
and if you want some really good training. get yourself a bunch of private lessons. Prathet is the best. his english sucks, but he will kick your ass. it makes you learn real quick. my kicks became 10 times better when i left there.
what does it cost to do something like this? does the camp provide you with room/board/food, or is that extra $? what are plane tickets like to get over?
i guess my question is what is the total one would set aside to do this?
biggest expense is plane ticket. mine was 1850$ on a seat sale, return. i dont know about prices from the states.
training is cheap, like a few hundred bucks a month. the gym has rooms you can rent, or there is other bungalows down the street. but theyre all pretty cheap too. cant remember exactly what i paid. but if you were gonna be thrifty, you should be able to go for a month, and spend less than your plane ticket cost, while youre there.
I was born in Bangkok and went back right before the Tsunami hit to meet up with family. Exploring the culture first hand is an incredible experience. It's funny to go to DC or to Williamsburg and here all the people gasp at how "old" something is. Check out some of these temples if you get the chance. I always wanted to study Muay Thai but ended up practicing Hapkido and Taekwondo in Seoul and here in the states.
