WOW! He must have impressed Dana some how during TUF10.

Nope. The reason Dana White talked so much **** about Kimbo is because Kimbo was a huge fan draw... For a rival organization. Dana's essentially a giant douchebag. Dana figured that if he couldn't have Kimbo fighting for the UFC and making him millions, then he'd damn sure do his best to make Kimbo and Elite XC look bad. And the reason he's doing an about-face now is because...

Yup, Kimbo is a huge draw for fans and money. And now that he's Dana's potential draw, it's going to take the jaws of life to get Kimbo's contract out of Dana's sweaty little fist. Dana may be a giant douche, but he's also a great businessman, and there's no way he's going to let a little thing like consistency between his words and actions get in the way of a big draw like Kimbo Slice and the millions of dollars to be made off of his fights.
In effect, the only thing about Kimbo Slice that really impressed Dana White was his ability to draw a crowd and seperate them from their money.
Only question in my mind now is whether Dana will at least have the decency to give Kimbo real matches, or whether he's going to feed him tomato cans like Elite XC did so that he can keep that PPV money rolling in...

Kimbo is going to be just like Lesnar but instead of being big and using his massive size to aid in his ability to wrestle them to an eventual G&P, Kimbo's going to use his size and strength (which I don't think anyone expcept Lesnar is prepared for) to keep the fight standing. IIRC the tall NFL guy who was gassed after one round had around a 79" reach. Kimbo's got short stubby thick tree trunks for arms/legs which make it that much harder for someone with decent BJJ or Judo to work with. On the off chance they do get a limb free they won't be able to hold onto it because of his strength. I'm glad he's taking it seriously and training properly. He's going to be dominant in the UFC if he gets his overall skills down. He'll still finish it standing up but if someone does take him down he'll know how to defend himself.
As for Dana I think it was a combination of both the fact that he didn't have Kimbo and that Kimbo wasn't ready. If Kimbo didn't sign with anyone else prior Dana still wouldn't have given him a shot because he wasn't ready. Now he is so good for him.

I really doubt that the UFC would have had any trouble signing Kimbo when he first started out in MMA... Dana talked sh!t about Kimbo because he was being pushed as a main event even though he wasn't a skilled fighter just a street fighter with a big name... and as I remember it Dana was proven right when Kimbo got koed by Petruzelli... it had nothing to do with his drawing power... I mean come on... EliteXC played a show that pulled 6 million viewers and was dead less than five months later... so much for that drawing power and all those "millions" Kimbo pulled in, eh?
Man that fight tonight was ********!! How could Fatass be proud of that shitty ass win, all he did was sit his stomach on Kimbo!! And wtf Kimbo, he didnt use any technique and just layed there with dead legs... Didnt hip up nothing, it was ********!! I was ****ing furious watching that fat ass cow win...
Rampage had the best quote from that fight. "dude how in the hell you gonna be able to move when you have the moon laying on you." I'm suprised Kimbo could even breath, the dudes gut was laying right on his face. Hell the guy could have just layed there and choked Kimbo out.
True, funny thing is Rampage was hitting on that point of escaping the mount with one of the Team Rampage trainers and its exactly how he lost. He couldnt get that moon off of him... **** that fat ass fighter! The next butterbean or tank abbot ********!
You know that fatass was so happy to lay on top of Kimbo after getting rocked a few good times. That fight was just utter b.s. if I was the ref I wouldn't even have stopped that fight. Dudes not doing any damage, Kimbo was prolly laying there thinking "damn this motherfawker stinks, and he's heavy!"
It was a BS fight, and I have to admit, I think I'm starting to come around on Kimbo. When he was doing EliteXC, I hated him, but I think that was my negative reaction to announcers calling him the "Tiger Woods of MMA" and stuff like that. After seeing some of the interviews on TUF, and watching him work, I found myself pulling for him in the fight with Nelson last night. I couldn't believe that I was yelling at the TV, telling him to get that fat fawk off him, because, like Dana, I've talked a lot of **** about Kimbo. Kimbo did show that he's got a lot to learn last night, and he's no mixed martial artist, but he knows that and he's doing what he can to change that. I have to give him some props for manning up.

All the lines when he was talking about Roy's gut were funny. When he was talking about whether or not Roy's feet get wet when he takes a shower, I literally sprayed Mountain Dew out of my nose....

He may not have been doing any damage but there was still 4 minutes left in the fight. Did you really see Kimbo escaping? It would have just been UD for Nelson.
Did Kimbo's knee remind anyone of Mir's Knee on Brock?

ill admit, the show is going to make people like kimbo more. since you get to actually see him as a person. instead of judging him on his fighting performance.
but id have to say, that was very dissapointing to watch. like does kimbo not retain any ground training he receives?? nelson was only laying on the very upper part of his body. kimbo couldve escaped that with very very basic BJJ101. so either kimbo doesnt receive training well. or his trainers just arent teaching him any ground techniques, and focusing all on take down defense.
this fight went down exactly as the thompson fight in elitexc. except the ref actually stopped the fight as per the rules this time. its like kimbo hasnt made a stitch of progress training wise, since induction to mma.
Ok same as everyone else blah blah blah the fight was boring and Nelson won due to him being preggos with twins etc.. The ending pretyt much summed up the next fight. Marcuz will try to fight with a bummed knee and is going to pass out and Kimbo's going to step in with someone who can't use their belly to win. I agree he had half his body out there and doing nothing which made me mad but then again the trainers are to blame. They know what he's good at and atleast the sessions look like he spends half the time doing the stuff he already knows how to do and that is fight. He has a LONG way to go but it's progress none the less. Looking forward to next week.

That was a good read, thanks! It's interesting to hear his perspective on the situation and it is easy to sit on a couch and say do this and that but all it comes down to is his limited experience and time to learn and go against guys who've done this for years.

he is making headway for sure. i think this was the first time kimbo has used a kick. and it was actually a nice stiff leg kick. but he made the classic mistake of a striker vs a grappler. he was doing good in the 2nd round, keeping the fight standing. but then he tried to throw that big knee, thinking he could get a KO. but that rarely lands clean enough for a KO, so he just got taken back down where he was helpless. frank mir did the exact same stupid thing against lesnar. its really frustrating, to watch these supposed pros, make very simple beginner mistakes.
