Not sure how big of a BJJ community we have on these forums, but would anyone care to throw up some reviews, or suggestions etc? I have watched my share of a few but before I posted up my own reviews I wanted to see if we had people who actually care lol.
I am watching Jeff Glover's Deep half guard right now, so I'll put up a review in a few days after I drill a bit more if people are interested. Maybe if people are interested we can trade some dvds.
Im going to start soon at the gym ive been training at...just once i get a little extra cashish. Been doing muay thai for a few months now and would like to get into it.
Please let me know how the Jeff Glover DVD is. I am trying to work my half guard more since I am a smaller person so I really need that particular area to be my more given positional expertise.
I believe Marcelo Garcia has one called New Game Jiu Jitsu (been out for a while i beleive) Series 4 which is supposedly good. Ryan Hall has a sick one on Triangles and the 50/50 position.
BTW where do you train at kevin?

I train in a school taught by a good friend called Nysanda. I use to train at Lotus Ny as well. My instructor is also associated with Ricardo De la Riva. Had a seminar with him last week and also got to have dinner with him. He is an amazing guy and really down to earth.
I will probably end up training at Marcelo's once he opens up. I met him this last saturday at the nogi pan-ams. As well as your instructor Ryan Hall.
The Jeff Glover dvd is great in my opinion as it gives you a lot of details in a very strong position for someone who is smaller. I use to play a deep half guard already but was getting caught from time to time, as well as playing Eddie Bravo's lock down / whip up. The beauty of Jeff Glover's Deep Half Guard compared to a traditional half guard sweep set up is that the weight of your opponent is completely off your body.
If you want to speak more about the dvd, feel free to shoot me a PM.
Marcelo Garcia = Me rewinding the DVD multiple times in awe of his skill level while trying to figure out how he just did what he did...Spent many hours watching him online and in DVD's. Greatness.
I've watched Garcia, Drysdale, Maia, Bravo, Quick, Hall, and a few others that I can't remember off the top of my head. All were good and would recommend any of them. I like Bravo's half guard. I haven't seen Glover's.
I have watched Marcelo's dvds a few times and honestly I find them to be very dry and boring.
Stu46 - How did you like the Ryan hall set? I am thinking about getting it but right now I have a lot of things on my plate to still drill and have solid. Learned about 15 De La Riva sweeps from a recent seminar, as well as 3 Deep Half Guard sweeps from Jeff Glover.
While Eddie Bravo's half guard is not traditional (referring to the orientation of your legs and how you wrap them), you are still in a traditional position (referring to how you are still basically shrimped to the outside, your under-hook side. Jeff Glover however takes his free arm, uses his underhood arm to create space, and then switches his hips and then shoots the free arm under the same leg that you have your hooks around. I know it seems very hard to understand (also very hard to type it out now that I think about it) but for a smaller player it seems to be the best half guard I have played so far.
The ease of getting into that position versus getting to the Electric Chair (Bravo's sweep) is really not so much in the actual difficulty of the position, but rather than how your opponents weight will be distributed on your body.
Kevin- How's that Glover DVD on teh half guard coming along? I've just started to incorporate the half guard into my game since I am a smaller person so this guard really does wonders for me.

It is a very good dvd actually. I have been actively playing deep half guard, although the half guard has always been a strong part of my game.
Well Deep half guard compared to your traditional half guard will probably amaze you even more lol. Basically the reason why deep half guard is so great is that you do not have your opponents entire weight on you.
The only thing is you have to have a good understanding of leverage and just half guard. In reality, knowing 1 half guard cannot make a good half guard. you need to be well versed in many escapes and sweeps from the half guard to make it a position you are dominant in.
If you want more info on the DVD, just shoot me a PM as it seem only you are interested.
