Exclamation Kimbo most watched MMA bout of all-time

CBS hoped that Kimbo Slice's internet following would travel with him to network television, and the gamble paid off.

Slice's Saturday night fight against James "The Colussus" Thompson drew a peak audience of 6.51 million viewers, breaking the record set by last September's UFC match featuring Quinton "Rampage" Jackson defending his belt against Dan Henderson. That fight aired on SpikeTV and drew 5.9 million fans. An October 2006 fight featuring Tito Ortiz against Ken Shamrock drew 5.88 million, also on Spike.

CBS is available in 112.8 million households while Spike is available in 96.1 million homes.

so they got what they wanted. I wonder if this was a one time showing or if they will be doing more of elite XC's WWE/MMA fights.

so the largest numbers of viewers in MMA history saw the sport disgraced and publicly humiliated, hope CBS is proud.

im sure some casuals may think that but im also sure the majority of mma fans know kimbo doesnt represent the top tier of what mma has to offer.

Thats probably a good point. I just think of all the people who never heard of MMA until that night. What did they learn about the multiple aspects of the sport? Did they see great grappling, striking, wrestling, cagemanship?...

When I first watched the early UFCs it CHANGED MY LIFE> I thought all real fights looked like boxing matches without gloves. If I watched this when I was in H.S. I would have seen a real fight in a completely different nature. It certainly wouldn't have peaked my interest in BJJ and eventually allowed me to go pro MMA. I would have probably said Im not as big as those guys...or think it was just a glorified boxing match with smaller gloves where you can be knocked over.

I wouldnt have fell in love with the sport the same way watching that either. (of course I was watching MA not MMA more or less..I fell in love with BJJ is the truth) BUT at least they go over the importance of all aspects of the sport. You see different people with different strengths competing. You see submissions, you see KOs, you see G&P, you see COMPLETE fighters.

So it is FAR FAR better IMO
