Tito Ortiz Vs. Dana White

hehe, things are out of control!
http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/...3680&zoneid=13

LOS ANGELES – (March 27, 2007) – Top mixed martial arts fighter Tito Ortiz says he pulled out of a planned boxing bout against Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White because he was being asked to enter the risky match without a contract and for no money. He said he is still willing to box White, but only if financial terms are ironed out in advance.

Ortiz, who has held the UFC light heavyweight championship title, had been scheduled to fight former amateur boxing champion White on March 24th in a “grudge match” in Las Vegas. The match was a pre-condition that Ortiz had imposed before he signed a new contract with the UFC last year. Like Ortiz, White had been training for the fight and had received Nevada State Athletic commission approval for the match.

Ortiz explained in a post on his MySpace.com blog that he had already given up time and lost promotional fees to train for the fight against White, but decided against continuing after White and Spike TV declined to sign a contract agreeing to monetary and other terms, such as filming the fight for broadcast on pay per view television.

After canceling several paid personal appearances in order to train for the fight and undergoing routine medical tests, he received a call from Craig (Piligian, Spike TV’s Senior Vice President of Sports and Specials), who said that “Dana (White) says that they are not going to shoot the fight (for PPV) or cover it in anyway. So this was a real lose, lose situation for me. I lost out on money for appearances. Now I was losing out on promotion and big dollars for the PPV. He didn't want to cut me in on the deal. So as a business man I couldn't do the fight.”

Ortiz also said that he has a “very big fight with (Rashad) Evans” coming up on July 7th. “Why would I risk my health and that fight for free?” he asked, referring to the White boxing match. “I wasn't going to make anything for it. I was not going to get taken advantage of as a fighter or a businessman. You tell me if I made the right decision. Hopefully this will get ironed out and will be done right the next time. Just trying to do business.”

holydamnz i didn't check the date. either way, can't believe tito's said all this shizzle about him being a business man and that he won't fight unless there's a money prosal. I remember him from huntinton beach before UFC.. he used to hangout at all the bars that i used to go to and being broke. I even shot pool with him a few times... i knew he didn't get along with dana but I missed this.

There was a 1 hour special showing Dana train and talking ish about Tito. In the end Dana made it seem like he had scared Tito off.

He did scare Tito off for sure. Tito wanted to get paid after he signed a contract saying he'd fight(box) Dana for charity when he got to the last fight on his contract.. Once Tito saw Dana sparring with a 265LB 19 y old he said he wanted money or he wasn't fighting.. typical Tito. they did however make it seem (on spike) that Tito just didnt show up to the fight which it didnt really go down like that.

i really don't think dana scared off tito. Tito backed off because dana helped him put his foot in the door and made him rich. He wouldn't want to completely burn bridges. If tito's own deal doesn't work out, he might have to workout another deal with dana. If he kicked his asz, there will not be any future for Ortiz.

There shouldn't be any future for Ortiz regardless in the UFC....but Dana loves $ and Tito pulls in the dollaz.

From what I remember he was cool with it up until a few months into it and Tito started asking for money.

It's a lose-lose situation anyway. He wins, and he beat up a guy who flies around the world signing contracts and talking to people all day. If he loses, he's a PROFESSIONAL FIGHTER that just got beat by an old guy who, while he has boxing experience and some training, IS A BUSINESSMAN BY TRADE.

I'm sure the thinking was like this:

Tito: "Hey, since you just signed me to a new contract, we can do add some kind of sparring match for charity. It'll definitely help bring people in, especially if it's leading up or after a big fight"
Dana: "Sure, sounds good"

21 months later...

Tito: "Woohoo I'm going to box Dana's face in in a few weeks!"
Jenna Jameson: "What if you look bad against him? Worse... what if you lose? I mean, look at your myspace, everyone there would clown you if you lose"
Tito: "You're right... let me find a way out of this"

that could be a possibility but a slim one. every which way you look at it, it's a lose lose situation for tito

1. tito fights - no pay
2. tito wins - kiss UFC career goodbye
3. tito lose - worse case scenerio
4. tito refusing to fight (current) - looks like he backed down

i think he's contract is over soon.. wonder what'll happen.. i don't think he'll be the next dana white.

I think Ortiz is a dickbag of a person, but he'd crush Dana, and I don't think it looks like he punked out, just showed his @ss more.

im not talking sh!t about tito, obviously he is an awsome fighter, he wouldnt be where he is today if he wasnt. but at the same time he is kind of a pussy imo, he has admited not only being scared going into a fight but crying as well. not to say being scared makes you a pussy, i would be too, but he seems to go a little overboard. i bet he was afraid to fight dana more because could you imagine if he got his ass kicked how embarrassing that would be? thats the main reason i wouldnt want to do the fight
