**Machida to face Silva @ UFC 89**
good matchup but too bad it's not the "other" silva.
http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/mac...t-uk-ufc-13707 Just a day after fortifying the lineup for their Oct. 18 UFC 89 card at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England, Zuffa have added a major light heavyweight tilt to the card. In a premier 205-pound pairing, unblemished Lyoto Machida (Pictures) puts his 13-0 mark on the line against fellow undefeated Brazilian Thiago Silva (Pictures), who boast his own 13-0 record. Machida’s lack of exposure despite wins over the likes of Rich Franklin (Pictures), Stephan Bonner and B.J. Penn (Pictures) once made him arguably the sport's greatest enigma. However, with a 5-0 mark in the UFC, including a commanding decision over former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz (Pictures) in May, the 30-year-old Machida has turned his mystery into mysticism, emerging as a dominant challenger with a seemingly unsolvable style. The 25-year-old Silva, one of the division's hottest prospects, also continued his climb up the light heavyweight ladder in May, overcoming a rocky start against fellow Brazilian Antonio Mendes (Pictures) to force "Samuray" to submit to punches from the mount in the first round. The victory ran Silva's UFC record to 4-0, including stoppage victories over Tomasz Drwal (Pictures) and Houston Alexander (Pictures). On Tuesday, Zuffa announced three bouts for the Oct. 18 UFC 89 card, making official fights between welterweights Akihiro Gono (Pictures) and Dan Hardy (Pictures), heavyweights Shane Carwin (Pictures) and Neil Wain, and light heavyweights Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (Pictures) and Luiz Arthur Cane. |

Too many Silvas.
If Chuck and Machida both wins who do you think will get the next title shot?

Good matchup.
I doubt Thiago will be able to land some kind of haymaker on Machida and this will be another UD for Machida. That being said, if Thiago represents his Chute Boxe heritage and go balls out, expect a KO from someone. |

I hope Silva wins this so I can stop hearing about how "elusive" Machida is. This is MMA, not point karate.

I think Machida already deserves a title shot--he is ranked #3 at LHW, right behind Rampage--but the division is so stacked, I guess the UFC figures he needs one more good win.
Do you guys think whoever wins this match is the #1 contender? My prediction is Machida by U.D.

No.
Silva by submission. The #1 contender is and should be Rampage. He and Shogun should fight and the winner fights Forrest. Sadly, Rampage is in legal trouble now to go along with his medical suspension that stretches to January. I'd be up for a LHW tournament.

Sure, height is the one factor that would need to be addressed. If he keeps having all this trouble making 170, he won't have a choice in the matter
![]() Look at Rousimar Palhares, he's 5'8"

I personally would like to see GSP step up to 185 and fight AS, but I don't see that happening.
