IT'S ON: Fedor vs. Arlovski

http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news;_yl...yhoo&type=lgns

LAS VEGAS – Fedor Emelianenko will defend his newly won World Association of Mixed Martial Arts heavyweight championship belt on Oct. 11 against Andrei Arlovski in the UFC’s backyard.

Affliction’s second MMA promotion will be at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus, in the shadow of the UFC’s corporate offices, according to a venue official.

Affliction made its promotional debut last Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., with Emelianenko submitting ex-UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia in just 36 seconds.

Affliction vice president Tom Atencio, who said Tuesday he hoped to nail down a site for his second show by the end of the week, could not be reached for comment Wednesday. But arena director Daren Libonati, who is a big MMA supporter, confirmed that Emelianenko will be back in his building.

Libonati was instrumental in bringing the now-defunct PRIDE Fighting Championship to the U.S. for the first time on Oct. 21, 2006, with a show at Thomas & Mack that featured Emelianenko defending his heavyweight title against Mark Coleman.

“We’re really excited to have Affliction in the building and particularly to have Fedor and all those other great names,” Libonati said. “I remember working so hard with all those people at PRIDE and the ultimate goal was to put on a show (at Sam Boyd Stadium, UNLV’s football stadium) where the PRIDE champions would have defended their titles against the UFC champions.

“That’s what we were working toward in those two (PRIDE) shows we did back then, but it never worked out. We always want to bring big events here, and any time you have Fedor in your building you have a big event.”

Libonati said a formal announcement of the fight card would come later in the week.

Nice! Hopefully it will be a good fight. Can't wait to see who else is on the card.

Me too. Everything should be released by the end of the week, "they" are saying.
This is making the entire MMA game more intersting. I think that in the long run Dana will have to cross promote fighters or lose a lot more talent

Those PPV buy numbers are probably looking good for Affliction.

Their first card was absolutely stacked. While I loved it, I'd love it even more if they stayed in the MMA business. Hopefully the contracts and payouts are a bit more financially lucrative for them this time. I wouldn't mind just 2 big fights instead of the 3-4 last time.

I'm putting up my $40 bux for it, and if they enable a webcast this time, i'm sure it will add even more buys than last time.

Probably try to c*ckblock it again and schedule a UFC fight night as well.

I can see it now:

Chuck Liddell will be testing the waters at heavyweight against Eddie Sanchez.
Also on the card:
Diego Sanchez
Nate Marquardt
Stephan Bonner

Oh no for Arlovski. I don't think he will last that long.

That is awesome Andrei is by far my favorite fighter, I'm glad he is back on track after dominating Ben. He finally looked like the old Arlovski that night. He will have his hands full however with fedor, should a great fight though! Can't wait for this one..go pitbull

Sylvia proved already that no amount of traditional boxing training can prepare you for the loopy striking of Fedor. Sure Arlivski has an incredible boxing trainer, but I'm pretty sure Fedor knows that his weakness is his chin, as exposed by Timmah.
Fedor by 1st round ko

From what I remember, Fedor got tagged by CC's left straight counter pretty often during their last fight...

Then again, it's insane to think Fedor, in all his 'inactivity' and 'not fighting top competition', didn't improve during the last 2-3 years. I'm sure he's corrected some of the flaws in his game, and that's probably one of them.

He could obviously get tagged by Arlovski's ridiculously fast and powerful overhand right... but my money is on Fedor by TKO.

I think this is one fight that is not a mismatch for Fedor.. AA and Fedor match up extremley well.. Both Sambo guys both good strikers with Fedor having a little more power.. let's not forget how drunk Fedor looked when Fujita rocked him. IMHO Anyone who of the same hieght and size as Fedor with equal sill set will make him work.. great fight either way.. something to look forward to for sure..

For all you guys that are saying it will only last 1 minute don't know anything about MMA!! These 2 guys have the same type of skills, both are great at Sambo, both have good standup, both were and or still Champions. But what I think will be the deciding factor is Arlofski is a little more athletic and has better leg kicks and if he comes in healty and focused he could beat Fedor. IMHO. Now for your comments.
