Tito Ortiz signs with Affliction

Tito Ortiz is set to become the highest paid MMA fighter in history when a "ground-breaking" deal between the free-agent fighter and Affliction is announced as early as Wednesday during a press conference for Affliction's next card, which will be held Oct. 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Affliction is just taking 1 more step towards bankruptcy or corporate take-over by Zuffa LLC

I'm sure his contract will be like Fedor's... bigger % cut on PPV buys and gate sales.

I think Tito had his time, and he's marketable and is probably worth the money (not fight wise, promotion wise), so I hope they do good. I don't see why anyone would only want the UFC to succeed.

They cut fighters after they lose a couple, fill their cards with a bunch of no-names and 'cheap' fighters, and probably has the worst 'show' out of the major MMA orgs - past and present (PRIDE, DREAM, Sengoku and Affliction).

The only good thing is that they got the top fighters in all divisions minus Heavyweight. And even that is hampered by the fact that those fighters have to deal with draconian contracts that made us wait YEARS to see Liddell/Silva and is stopping a Fedor/Randy fight.

Why would you want the UFC to be the only successful org???

are you directing that at me?

if so, who said I only want the UFC to succeed? I never stated that, I am just stating that Affliction is just trying to use a bunch of money up front and make a name for themselves, guess what happens when the dust settles? Its called Debt. A company with to much debt usually ends up doing 1 of 2 things.

1: goes bankrupt

2: is bought out by another company...

Everyone said the same things about PRIDE as they are about Affliction. Where is PRIDE now???

It took Zuffa 6 years to break even on the investment they put into the UFC when they purchased it. How many owners are willing to wait 6 years before they earn their money back? Not many that is for sure.

Tito has definitely had his day, well said. I can't imagine why they see him so valuable. Signing him I can see but paying him more than any other fighter...thats crazy. He is always good for hyping up a fight but his G&P has been pretty rusty in his last few fights and he just isn't that exciting to watch anymore. Guess we'll see what he last left soon.

Not aimed at you specifically USN HM 350Z, just to the Affliction haters in general. So many people are not only predicting their downfall, but are hoping for it.

I support any MMA org out there who puts out good fights; especially ones that let my favorite fighters go abroad and fight in tournaments ^_^

Hell, I even bought an overpriced Affliction T =P

Affliction is not != UFC or PRIDE. Their clothing line as well as advertisers will cover a lot of their cost for their events. It doesn't necessarily have to survive on PPV numbers alone. I'm expecting a cut back in fighter payroll this fight, and the next. Just because Tito says "dude i'm getting PPAAIIIIDD..." doesn't mean it's all upfront money.

While UFC and PRIDE also had their own clothing line... it's not their bread and butter. Last time I was at my local mall, Buckle was extremely busy, on a Wednesday night the week after the fight. Even if profit margins are low on their MMA side, if their clothing line is increasing in popularity, it may be well worth it.

That depends honestly. Donald Trump is far wealthier than Dana White and his investors. He is not hurting for money so he might be willing to wait several years before he see's a return on his investment. As long as he believes there is a future in the investment and he is not hurting for money in the meantime it is very possible that him and the other investors won't sell.

Donald is not the only wealthy investor in Affliction either, there are several wealthy people involved who are probably not interested in putting a bunch up front only to sell at a loss in the next couple years. I think they are going to put a lot into it because they want to see it take off, not get taken over. Time will tell though!

Oh and you do realize that the Fertita brothers (Zuffa LLC) are the owners of the Station Casino Empire right? with a combined net worth of over 2.6 Billion dollars (Forbes) Dana White only works for them, he doesn't own UFC.

Im sure he probably does have a certain %, but he is not really an owner. People talk like Dana owns the UFC. He is just the President.

I have shares in Microsoft, but that doesn't really make me the owner. I cannot sell the company.

Good for Tito and expensive for Affliction. I'm not sure if Tito can draw outside of the UFC. I for one am not overly excited for the Oct. event. Even though i labled this fight as a dream match or at least one i wanted before Babalu fought chuck and most likely won't purchase it. with this crap economy the amount of PPV's i purchase have dropped alot since last year and i would imagine i'm not the only one..

I know. They are the type of people that own affliction. If they didn't have all that wealth then Zuffa would have never lasted either. If they were hurting for money they couldn't afford to go in the red for as long as they did. That was what I meant, Donald and the other investors have net worths even larger and can afford to go in the red as well. I think they will try to make it take off and we won't see them just giving up in a year and being taken over by Zuffa. They will go red for a while in an attempt to make something of it in the future.

And Dana is a minority owner, but he still has fractional ownership. They are the majority owners but not the sole owners.
