Is this bike a good deal?
I'm currently in the market for my first bike. I want to get something that is beginner-friendly and not too expensive. I've heard some guys on here say the F4i is a pretty good bike.
I saw this 2001 F4i with 7200 miles on Craigslist for $3900. Do y'all think this bike looks like a good deal, and would it be good for a beginner, or should I start out with something smaller? Btw, I'm 32 and don't plan on being stupid with a bike. I'm going to take the MSF course, too. http://batonrouge.craigslist.org/mcy/720789623.html |

That's an awesome deal especially for that mileage. I guess the owner didn't ride it as much as he did. and given the low mileage i am assuming he as changed the oil from 2-3 times in the 7 years that its been owned. There is nothing wrong with starting on this F4i. even for a beginner. Most would say start with a 250 and that is even my advice. But since this is one hell of a deal i would say go for it. Most 250's can be had between $2500-and $3000. So fo an extran $900 it won't be to much of a stretch. Just make sure you take your MSF if you have never ridden on a motorcycle. you will learn a lot of important riding safety manuevers/knowledge which will help you become more comfortable.
best of luck on the deal. AND GET SOME GOOD GEAR!

I clicked on the link at it states that the post has been flagged for removal. Either it sold, or someone listed it wrong. Good luck in your search for a bike, though. Take your time and make sure you're buying something mechanically sound.

That's odd. The link still works for me. I talked to the guy on the phone and may go look at it this evening. There's a few people ahead of me in line to see it, though.

The f4i was my first bike. It was stone cold reliable and very hard to crash. I did so many rookie mistakes and it never went down.
Ex. 1. Allen isnt paying attention as he is exiting the freeway and doesnt see that traffic is backed up onto the freeway exit ramp. Allen acts like a noob and locks the front wheel at 50mph. Just slid for a little bit but stayed up. My r1 would have slammed me into the ground for sure. Ex. 2. Allen the bike noob is changing his own bike oil for the first time without proper stands and overfills the f4i's motor with oil. Then mr. bike noob decides its making a funny noise (nock) and DRIVES it over to a buddies house to see whats up! Bike survived that as well. Anyways the bike has the perfect mix of power to still be fast but not wheelie easy. Has great geometry to keep you right side up and is very reliable. I put it through several noob tests and it passed. |

I'm nowhere near a noobie and I ride an F4i still, great bike, will most likely have about 50,000 miles on it before the end of the riding season here, I'd surely recommend getting one. As far as mileage goes, high miles don't mean shyt.
