Advise on scooters please

So i'm stepping down my game from an R1, to hopefully a small scooter. lol

I need some advice on what kind of scooter to get. I want something with really good gas mileage as i hate spending 65 dollars twice a week to fill up my Z.

Currently I'm looking at a yamaha Zuma 125CC, but it doesn't come out until September. I need something that can hit and maintain 50-55 MPH since that's about the average cruising speed on a road i take to work.

input on what else is out there that i should be shopping for? I'd like to keep it around $3500 or less.

thanks!

I know that this doesn't compare to the Yamaha ZUMA but it is another scooter. Not to sure on top Speed though. I almost want to say it might not hit 55mphs. just by the looks of it. But just an option. Sorry don't know to much bout scooter except the fact they get like 115+ miles to a gallon

Aprilia SR50. It'll do 55 with my big a$$ on it and is only 50cc (2 stroke) and gets incredible gas mileage.....around 100mpg

My advice... avoid anything Chinese. Go with the Aprilia or a Derbi. I have a Derbi GP1. From the dealer, it topped out at 35mph. It took me one hour to de-restrict it and get it to run 55mph. If that's not enough speed, aftermarket parts are available for both. I have a 70cc motor, pipe, carb, reeds, variator, clutch, kevlar belt and a K&N filter on mine and it does 90mph now. 'Course I took mine to the extreme... it now gets 30mpg and burns 100 octane gas. You don't have to go quite that far.

My Derbi GP1 Replica before mods:

90mph on a couple of wheel barrel wheels?

That would be hilarious though to see a scooter go flying down the interstate passing everybody.

This scooter is set up for racing. Rims are 13's, not 10's like other scooters (Yamaha Riva and Honda Elite).

omg that's hot! But how does it do 55 MPH with only a 50cc motor? Almost everything i read says 50cc's is good for about 30-35MPH.

and yes sorry guys, i spelt advice wrong. My bad.

I don't know, and this is just my guess, but I think it would be safer. You could maneuver better and move/stop faster. But you'd get half the MPG. It'd be a lot more fun.

The Chinese one's are crap and really only go 35mph. The European one's are artificially limited due to the speed limit for non-registered scooters being 35mph.

There's a small pipe that dead-ends coming off the exhaust. You cut that off and either weld the hole or just pinch it shut in a vise. You then remove the spacer from the variator that prevents it from closing all the way. Some also have a restrictor in the carb throat that can be easily removed. Now it'll do 55mph.
