coming from jap I4's, the powerband is a lot smoother and fatter. A lot easier to ride on the street, but vibrates like no tomorrow... It's light and agile...but seating position is not the best. The seat sucks, and anything over a 3 hour ride would hurt my ass. And it gets hot...REALLY hot....and feels like it's burning through your pants. The seating position allows for crisp turn-ins due to the low clip-ons...but long distance, it strains your wrist.

It has its ups and downs...but of course it's a head-turner...and the sound is ridiculous with my Termis. But I do miss the 15k rpms tho.

Overall......7/10.

you're reviewing it the wrong way.

Do you get into a race car that has a solid racing seat with a racing harness and deduct points because its a pain to get in and out of and after hours or racing it hurts your butt?

As a race bike. how do you feel about it?

I have a GSX-R1000, if I use it for nothing but ripping up the backroads. I would rate it a 10/10 I LOVE this bike.
However, if I had to rate it as an over all well rounded bike. I'd give it maybe a 5/10
SV1000 or Z1000 > > > > GSX-R1000 for well rounded use.

Same goes for your duc.

Same goes for your duc.
And I respect the way you rate your bike. However I bought the Duc for a different purpose. The main reason I went for the Duc was because 1) It's a Duc and I've always wanted a Duc, 2) The price has gone down significantly since the 999/749 series, 3) I wanted to go back to the V-Twin because I miss my SV's torquey street prowess, as I mainly ride it on the street. It's a "sportbike", not a "race bike".

If I wanted a track only bike, I would have gotten a 1098R or a D16RR.

The 350Z is a sports car...so do you only race it? Same deal.

And to answer your question, how I rate it as a race bike......

I haven't tracked it yet. However I take it on to HARD canyon runs every Wednesday with my bike buddy. We go and find the hardest/longest/smoothest routes around the province...whether it be taking a ferry or taking 2 hours normal riding to get there. As that, I would rate it 8/10. The dampening could be stiffer at the front, and it could use a little more top end power. Other than that, I like the sitting posture, as I said above, the clip-ons are low so you place your weight on it, making turn in's easy. I also like the slimmer rear tires compared to the 1098, as it makes changing direction quickly very easy.

I think it's safe to say a 350Z is not a race car or a super car, it's a sports car. more of a "grand touring car" then anything else.

Also the duc is not a normal sport bike, it could be listed up there with supersport bikes. In fact, ducati list the bike as a super bike. I think a better fitted bike for normal mixed street riding would be the Multistrada. 1100cc twin motor with a riding position that would be great for hours on end.

that's true, the multistrada is very comfortable with the upright position...but I still don't think the 848 is a true racebike. I admit it's a sportbike, but I do use it more frequently on the street than anything else.

But honestly if I was going for something that I ONLY take on canyons, I would have gotten either the GSXR750 or your GSXR1000...IMO your gix is way better at the highway/canyon carving than my Duc. But I wanted a slight compromise...hence the way I evaluated the bike.

you think the 848 is bad?? trying riding a R1 or a RC51 much worst..runs alot more warmer/ hot. and i love my white 848.. goood choice.. only thing i dont like about this bike is that it has wet clutch instead of dry clutch which duc is known for.. and your right the seat cushion are crap besides that i have no problem with the bike.. alot more agile then my r1 or rc51 or my previous gsxr 750..

is that a full termi exhaust or just slip on?? if its a slip on did you feel any difference?? im thinking of just going Leo Vince SBK slip on exhaust..

all the origional 750's, 860's 900's etc. had wet clutches...

Yes it's agile, but I would like to have more power to go with it.

I have the Termi slip-on's, with the db killers removed...and the ecu. The butt dyno tells me it pulls a little stronger up top, whereas with the stock cans, it dies down a bit. I was never a fan of LV's design....I like the Akra pipe though.

Beautiful bike, absolutely love the Duc's styling, and would really like to have one, but unfortunately I put waaaaay too many miles on a sportbike to own a Duc, @ my average 10-12,000 miles a year it'd cost me more in maintenance than the actual payment. I'm aware of Ducati making the new ones a bit more maintenance free, was it something like every 6,000 miles it needed the valves adjusted or something silly like that? But now it's up to 10-15,000 miles? Please correct me on the numbers, thanks. Again, stunningly gorgeous bike guys

i rode an 848 before i bought my 1098. i was coming off a 04 gsx-r600 and a 06 749dark.

i felt that the 848 shook WAY too much in the low rpms. anything below 5k and the whole front fairing was all over the place. the 1098 is much smoother(i thought that was odd considering the higher displacement)

i will agree that they get WAY hot really fast. my 749 ran really cool and very rarely got above 200 and my 1098 get above that even when its relatively cold out side.

as for the seating position the 1098 feels like a lounge chair compared to my 749 but neither is anywhere near as comfy ask my gsxr
