First bike ride

So yesterday i finally got around to riding a bike. It was my sisters CBR600rr and i have to say . . . it was the most amazing feeling i have ever had in my entire life. Its so hard to decribe but i got the most incredible natural high and adrenaline was just coursing through my vains. I loved it so much that it actually brought me back to reality and made me consider not even getting a bike at all.

Many of you might think that doesnt make any sense, but i bet alot of you will. I never felt endangered while on the bike, but when i was riding i finally understood how dangerous the bike actually was. I was hoping to get some stories about some riders first experience, if they had similar experiences and if they still have that joy when they ride, or does it fade away like everything else?

Umm cool beans Depends on what aspect you are talking about. Some fades and some stays.

The best feeling i had when i first took out my cbr600 was when i was done riding and came back in to sit down i could still feel the G's pressing on my body. Man that was the best feeling in the world and eventually it all went away. The only thing that can rival it is take off in a plane.

Chasing that first high is almost like an addiction. The overall feeling generally stays, but you'll eventually get comfortable with the acceleration and you'll push it more and more.

Then, you lay it down for the first time from doing something goofy, and you are nervous for a week, and eventually start getting more and more comfortable again.

Just learn from your mistakes (and don't make big mistakes that seriously injure you) and you'll be fine.

Think that feels good , wait till you get a knee down for the first time , then once again the first time you tap an elbow on a rumble strip , first time taking the checker in a race , first time placing top 3 , then first first , etc etc.

Then once you get the first life threatening injury, you kinda start thinking a bit different.

I dont think i would go to the track ever so i would probably not do any high speed turns to the point where i had my knee down to the ground. ( of course i say that now but who knows how i feel when i get more experience.)

My first experience wasn't until i took my MSF back in 2001. It was a good feeling only because i started out small. I then started riding my uncles Ninja 250 for half a season. Again i started small. Fast forward to 2006 i bought my first SS bike a GSXR600, and JESUS i almost scared myself shitless because i was used to the power of a 250 and when i twisted that throttle for the first time just to rev it up i was nervous at how fast and flickable that throttle is compared to the 250 i originally started on. But everything i learned from MSF started to come back to me and i felt comfortable. I was nervous and excited all at once cause i had to drive on the highway to get home from the dealership to my house.

I was overfocused (not sure if that is a bad thing) when i first actively rode home that day and the fact that it was during traffic. But i took it easy and tried to remember all that i learned. It took me a week to adjust to riding in traffic because i was scared to take right turns onto a busy street so often i would wait till the light turned green to take a turn. I didn't care if i held up traffic, my life was more important then someone who needed to be somewhere. One day i was taking a right hand turn and my wrist hit the gas tank and i panicked, pulled the clutch in and i layed the bike down. That was 6 months after i started riding. I learned my mistake and to practice more and more in an open parking lot my tight turns.

I then went to my first bike week up in Ocean City MD 4 months there after which was about 2-3 hour trip. I learned how to deal with numerous motorist in a city like environment which clutch control and balance plays a key role because i only 5'5" with a short inseam and snaking my way through traffic was a bit nerve racking.

Finally everything up till now i have had about 2 close calls, but because i am aware of the dangers i rely on my experience to keep me out of trouble and to position myself so other motorist can see me. It's good that you enjoy your first ride but riding on a RR bike isn't the best way to give you the motivation to see how enjoyable riding is. THere will be dangers along the way. Just don't ride outside your limit and as time progresses you will find riding is an enjoyable hobby.

Thanks for the friendly advice and i more than intend to use it, i am going to buy a 250, there is no way i would need anything more right now.

I dont get a high on my bike like I do in my car. After driving my car my hands are shaking from adrenaline, my bike doesnt do that EVER, but it produces a feeling that my car cant provide. Its hard to explain. On a nice day its a hard choice between the 2, but for now because its new to me, the bike wins.

You think that's a rush...wait until you bring the bike to a track. I have no interest in going on spirited group rides anymore because it will never live up to riding on a track. Plus, its alot less dangerous on a track.

If you get your licence and get a bike, I'm sure you'll end up doing trackdays sooner or later.

you'll soon find out that going fast on a bike in a straight line is extremely boring. It's when you can lean over and take a high speed corner at 130mph+ and feel like you're kissing the pavement, and watching the lines and the pebbles in the pavement zip by...

my first bike a yamaha R1.. no problems at all just have to take it easy for awhile than you get more and more comfortable and a couple years later you're glad you decided to skip the 600 and move to the 1000 cause if i had gotten the 600 i'd be sellin it in a year for the 1000
