Hey guys...I recently just picked up a Kawasaki Ninja zx600. I got it in a straight up trade for an old computer that I didn't use anymore.
I've never driven a bike before or even worked on a bike. This bike is not running but was told it just needs the carbs rebuilt and a new battery. My question for everyone, is can you all point me in the direction of some companies or websites where I can find parts for an 86 Ninja? I'm lost and not sure about all the different models that I have found listed for the early Ninjas. I think that mine ends up being a ZX600-a2 but I am not sure. Any help or links would be appreciated. Thanks! Nick

Nice, my first bike was an 88 Ninja 600r, back in 1993, lasted only a couple months before being wadded by some ahshole in a hurry. As far as parts, call a couple local bike shops, surely there'll be a place that has parts for them, also find out if you have a motorcycle salvage in your area, or ofcourse ebay and craigslist, they'd have a ton of used parts for cheap for them, for plastic you may want to check airtech-streamlining, I believe they sell aftermarket plastic still for older bikes.
Good luck bro, take your time while learning, and buy lots of gear

Find a motorcycle shop. In a case like yours I would suggest dropping it off with them and just letting them do all the troubleshooting for you.
The bike is old- in reality, you have no clue what's wrong with it. With your limited motorcycle knowledge, you could be beating yourself over the head trying to find parts and figure things out just to find later that you were troubleshooting the wrong problem the entire time. Anyway, nice grab on the bike. Sounds like you got a great deal. Good luck. |

Here you go Carb rebuild kit. http://www.cyclepages.com/ProductGro...roupID=4001179
And a battery http://www.cyclepages.com/ProductGro...roupID=4000145 Remember it has 4 carbs. I would suggest taking it to a regular motorcycle shop. If you take it to a dealer you are going to get screwed factory parts are going to be a lot more than the K&L parts. I would be ready to pay about 100.00 a carb with parts. If you decide to try it; you don’t need to take the linkage apart. You just want to take the float bowl chambers apart, the slid chamber apart, of course the jets and air mixture screws and all of those out. You will need to let them soak for a day or so in MOTORCYCLE cab cleaner. It is not as harsh as car carb cleaner. Car carburetor cleaner can and will mess up the motorcycle parts. It will make rubber swell. You might want to soak the carb boots that attaches the carb to the head in carb cleaner. It will soften it up and make it easier to put back on. You will also need to synchronize the cars when your done. Good luck Good find on the bike if it has been garaged it should be a good bike to learn on. Is it red and white or black?
