Rossi & Stoner

Anyone else enjoy watching those 2 exchange passes at Laguna Secca yesterday as much as I did?

It was sick madness! The whole race was awesome. Back and forth, non stop 2 position passes. Crazy!

Im a big Duc fan and Duc rider. I really love the fact that Stoner brought Ducati a world championship title home last year and all. But man he is a little b*tch. Rossi really pushed him hard and made the race VERY interesting to watch. The best race of the season by far. But Stoner can not take losing at all.

Rossi went to shake his hand after the race and Stoner kept on sucking his water bottle and b*tched and moaned that "THATS NOT HOW YOU RACE!" and blah blah. Then he was complaining to the BBC anchor how rossi was riding him WAY too hard. He's starting to get on my nerves.

Great race though.

it was dice and slice there for a while...both making unbelievable passes.

i actually thought rossi did the cleaner passing though...so don't know why stoner would be complaining. not shaking hands is bs

I agree, I think rossi did do the cleaner passing. But I think stoner was mostly complaining about the fact that every opportunity he saw to pass Rossi, Rossi shut him down. Albeit defensively or just trying to hold his line. Stoner was riding way too hard, trying to pass him at every opportunity instead of waiting for the right moment. I think he saw that Rossi was going to be a problem 2 laps in and started to lose his cool. So I dont think the passing was hard at all, but stoner was making it harder than it had to be.

Supposedly he was also blaming Rossi for braking VERY early in a few corners, kinda brake checking him, and messing up his rhythm. Eventually causing him to bin it, which supposedly he took the blame for that. At least he manned up to one thing.

during the telecast they had a throttle meter and braking meter and you could clearly see rossi braking longer before entering the corners...whereas stoner was braking really late before entering the turn. i thought this was just their riding style differences.

based on what noc748 stated about the early braking by rossi actually makes sense now.

these two had different lines on almost every corner. seemed like rossi had the better setup in the corners and the duc had better power on the straight aways.

excellent racing...one of the best races i have seen in a while for sure

Rossi definitely a better rider than Stoner, IMO. His technique equals that of any great rider/driver. He brakes carefully, makes a great line and exits out with smooth throttle input. He's always very calm and focused no matter what the scenario, unlike Stoner on the other hand.

Stoner is still good, better than any normal guy on a bike, but his riding style is different whether he is either dominating or losing. If he's dominating and has the track to himself, he rides more relaxed, picks better lines and is less frantic on the controls. But when he's pushed, he loses his cool VERY fast and it his downfall, as we all saw yesterday. He was flustered that Rossi was keeping pace and he wanted to use the Duc's power and electronics to do the work. He got cocky from his impressive practice sessions, had the pole by a good number. His mind was focused on just make a good start off the line and hold the position until the race was over.

IMHO, i think Casey is getting too used the Duc's power and electronics this year and he's concentrating more on using the power & elec's to his advantage than riding cleanly with good form and smart race strategy.

It was a pretty awesome race, nice to see Stoner push Rossi, but he has to understand, Rossi is the phuckin man and not gonna be intimidated by a 22 year old kid, going to be an interesting last 6 races......

Wow. Got a little dirty there on the first lap in the YouTube video. That could have ended very badly. Hell of a show though! I totally forgot this was on and missed it.

The pass that Rossi made in the Corkscrew was absolutely incredible. I have no idea how he stayed up, other than the fact that he is one of the greatest riders ever.

Stoner is on a faster bike. Rossi had to do whatever he could to stay in front.

Damn that pic makes you want to sh*t a brick if it were any other rider off the street.

Being that both riders seemed to be pushing the other is there some sort of racing ethic in which another racer shouldn't change up his racing style in order to win. I follow up on watching but i am not to keen of the regulation. If Stoner is being pushed by another rider then shouldn't he be that much more aggressive in order to stay in front then to complain about it?

Theres definately ethics, but at the motogp level, it's- this is how many laps, there's the finish line, and the thing on your right is the throttle. Period. If you were to act like that at a trackday, you'd get pummeled by other riders, but you aren't making any money, no trophy's, we all have to be at work on monday. There is a basic rule on passing that follows all, it's your responsibility to make a safe pass, Rossi and stoner were going at it so fierce however, the rules/etiquette pretty much flew out the window a few laps before. I really thought at some point they were going to take each other out, which would have been an extremely terrible scenario for both, Pedrosa would have been the only one to win out on that.

Awesome racing
