Rider Down

Long story short, I Low-sided the bike this past friday. From what I can tell looked like the feeler on the bottom of the foot peg snagged the ground and took the bike for a toss. I wrecked at approx 30-35 MPH going around a right hand turn. I was wearing full gear except pants. I had jeens on. Luckly just a little srape on my knee, and a sore neck. Other than that all is still intact. Some Pics.

The Culprit

Rear spools helped out

Broken off Foot Peg and smashed brake lever

No frame Sliders....I know I know...

handlebar?

Brake Lever

Be Careful guys.

Sorry to hear =( that's 2 out of the 4 of you. Maybe karma catching up to you for leaving Charles behind last time?

Thankfully it looks like it should be pretty easy to get back together, mostly just looks. new faring can easily fix that up, as with the other parts that are not hard to change. The main thing you do not want to mess up is the tank, that thing cost a good bit of money.

As far as your foot peg, I highy doubt it, those things get ground down all the time, my F4i was missing a good bit of metal. They're made to retract if they hit anything. plus that little metal knob slides easily, ever see someone put metal tacks in their shoes, jump off the bike, grab onto the rear and let the bike pull them as if they're skiing on the pavement?

Glad to hear you're ok! if you need any help with things let me know, I have lots of tools and have worked on my share of bikes.

I know the pegs are made to slide, but if you had seen the scene, it truly looked like one caught the ground and dub in hard. Perhaps it was too much lean angle for that turn/speed and when it hit the ground it dug in.....either way, we are all glad he came out ok. 2/4 gone down!!!

its a toss up. =)

Write down your parts list, then go to www.crotchrocket.com give them a call and tell him a friend sent you there saying that they could beat ron ayers pricing.

chances are they'll be a few bucks cheaper.

Again, once you get the stuff, if you need help just let me know.

and as always, if anyone wants to do some 1 on 1 riding with me, let me know. I'd be more then happy to sit back and watch then try to give some pointers.

I'm not the best or fastest rider, but I have spent a lot of time riding with some great riders.

So onto the next question, how do you feel your frame sliders did, both the main ones and the ones that doubled as your spools?

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Those feller pegs are notorious for grabbing the ground. I always remove mine 1st thing. Good Luck getting it back together.

Actually, I did not have frame sliders on the bike at the time of the wreck. . Luckly the bike did not tumble of anything like that. It just skid accross the pavement until it hit a small patch of grass where it stopped. Thus ruining the fairings. The rear spools I think did a great job. They got banged up pretty good, and thankful for that, they rear of the bike looks good. However, I did order the d@mn frame sliders last night as I should have done 1 month ago but like I said earlier you live and you learn.

Thanks for all the comments guys and I hope to have the bike put back together in about a month with a few changes.

Only solid pegs can cause a crash when touched down. I have to be harsh here, but quit blaming other things and blame yourself for the crash. First of all you shouldn't have been that leaned over on the street, second i would bet your suspension isn't properly set up(yes suspension makes a difference on when your pegs touch down) Last i'm willing to bet you don't know how to properly lean off the bike (rider error ) knowing the proper way to lean off will decrees the lean angle.

+1

I've ground down the feelers on my F4 and they never grabbed. You always have to have some cornering clearance in reserve when your riding on the street. As stated above, getting off the bike significantly reduces your lean angle and gives you a safety buffer if you need to tighten your line. Rearsets are a great idea once you're dragging pegs on a regular basis AND your form is tight.

Generally the hero pegs will not cause a crash. They will spring up 99% of the time and just grind against the ground.

I'm sure that you know what you're doing, but it's very very easy to freak out when leaning over that far and lay the bike down without knowing what went wrong, especially when you feel/hear the metal on the asphalt from the pegs.

Either way, glad to hear it came out okay.
