Pics of my Utah Ride this Past Weekend!!!

Some friends of mine and I made our way up to Southern Utah to ride some of the best roads made! We trailered our bikes up Saturday morning and did 250 miles or so on Saturday and about 150 miles on Sunday before loading up and heading back to Vegas.

Our base camp was in Panguitch, UT. Our riding took us past Bryce Canyon, Escalante, and Torrey on some great third/fourth gear (on the Busa) sweepers. Sunday's ride was a bit more technical; with a ride on some back roads near Brianhead Ski Resort and down into Cedar City. I'd post up a map, but I'm too lazy...

We had a special guest with us for this ride. Lee Parks... ex-AMA racer, moto-journalist, author of "Total Control", and head instructor/owner of the Total Control Advanced Riding Clinics came along. Needless to say, he is faaassst! Lee had absolutely no issues on his 65HP SV650S keeping up with my buddy Josh, who is a WERA racer riding a ZX-10R. More proof that it's all about the rider, not the bike. Anyway, enough blabbering on about the ride... here's the pics.

Lee's Bike:

Some shots from a scenic overlook a bit past Escalante, UT:

A great burger joint in Torrey:

Cedar Breaks: (near Brianhead Ski Resort)

A shot of the riders at the Chessmen Ridge Overlook: (I'm on the far left)

Waiting for a few riders to finish their second run through a great piece of road:

Oh yes... the roads are excellent. A great cure for Vegas' lack of decent twisties.

Oh man that is awesome. I recently finished reading total control, great book for beginners! I'd love to do his riding clinic. Thanks for sharing.

I did the riding clinic this past April and it is an excellent learning experience! I may do the newly-offered Part 2 of his clinic in October. Tara, shown below, did the clinic with me and she was the only person who got their knee down in the exercises.

Here's Lee demoing one of the exercises during a class:

How would you have rated your riding before and then after the clinic? How long had you previously ridden? track at all?

I've been riding for a little over seven years now. I've done about five track days and I've also attended the STAR School put on by Jason Pridmore. The Total Control ARC allows you to spend much more time working on body position and throttle control than the track schools. After you complete an exercise, you receive immediate feedback and there's usually only a two or three minute rest until you get to repeat the exercise and make adjustments. My body position is MUCH better now after taking the ARC and this helps me get the big, fat Busa around the turns. Not to say that I didn't benefit from the STAR School, but I wish I would have taken the ARC before I attended the STAR School or did any track days.

Yep... LV Dyno Tech has been open for about a year now, I believe. He used to do work on import cars, but I'm not sure if he's a Supra guy... we just pretty much talk bikes. I wouldn't doubt it though.

Now that you pointed them out YES, they were my first race leathers, and still have the Woodcraft and Airtech bodywork patches on them. I guess they're like community property now and getting passed around.
