Default So I'm selling the 06 Busa for...

A brand new 08 cbr1000rr for 9100 OTD. Got a guy picking up the busa for 6300 today after work. So I'm going to do my civic duty and contribute to the economy by cutting the dealer a check for roughly 3k. I want to make it a dedicated track bike and I figure during the off season that'll give me all the time I need to get some engine work done to it and have it ready by spring next year. I had a few questions for you guys though.
1. I have two color choices: candy red and silver or black and silver. At first I wanted the black and silver but after seeing that red in person I think I fell in love with it. In the same token I like the low key nature of the silver and black. I'm torn I tell you!
2. Since its going to be a track bike I wanted to get some race fairings because I'll more than like go down seeing as though the best of the best lowside every now and then. So what's the general feedback on those ebay race fairings (no headlight, mirrors, etc..)
3. What do you think about honda cbrs overall?

That's pretty interesting... I'm going to pick up a leftover '08 CBR1KRR as well, but I'm contemplating keeping my '05 Busa. The CBR is a great bike... a good friend of mine is a WERA racer and after he test rode one through some twisties he told me "you're gonna want to get one of these!" It has the weight/handling of a 600 with the power of a literbike.

If you're doing race plastics, then the color is pretty much irrelevant. I'd go with the black/silver since the black tank will go with pretty much any color scheme you paint your bodywork.

Just out of curiosity, is this your first track bike? Even if not, engine work really wouldn't be my first priority... try suspension. If this is your first track bike, I'd leave it alone and get some seat time before I started any mods. It will be plenty fast right out of the box.

Black/Black =) but I believe that was an 07 color. so get whatever color YOU like, screw what anyone else thinks.

The ebay fairings are only as good as the person who makes them, search around the motorcycle forums on fairings and you'll find a few reviews on different companies.

Honda makes a great bike, however in 08 they hit the bike with the ugly stick and IMO it looks like total chit. I'd own an 07 CBR1000 anyday over an 08. however for a track bike I'd much rather go with the GSX-R1000 or R1

BTW engine work? most people on 600s will eat you up at a track if you're a noob. why engine work?

Skip out on the engine modifications until you can sling that bike around like a pro.

Invest in some bobo plastics first.

Congrats.

i would go with the silver/black

ebay fairings are hit and miss so be prepared to have to make some minor modifications

Honda makes a great motorcycle so I am sure that you will be pleased with the purchase. Like it was said before, play with the bike alot and get a great feel for it before modding the engine. It is going to be a huge difference between the honda and the busa.

have fun with it

Also... if you plan to do race plastics, get some decent stuff that wont just shatter in a milion pieces if/when you go down. I know a few peeps with Attack bodywork who've crashed and they swear by it.

I won't even address the noob comment seeing as though it would be illogical to even own a Busa if you don't know how to "get it in" properly (no 1" chicken strips over here).

I finally was able to start riding my busa like I stole the d@mn thing... Now it's time for a change. By no means am I saying I tapped the full potential of my busa by saying that BTW. If that were the case I'd be an AMA racer.

Yeah the sumbytch is ugly as all get out. I'm really not concerned with looks though. "I wanna go fast" - Ricky Bobby. If I wanted a bike for looks I'd get a Duc 1198 and just let it sit and my garage all day and wipe it down with a microfibre cloth for hours at a time.

As far as the engine and suspension is concerned. The honda tails off on top end power. Sure I'll only see that on straightaways (which the K9 GSX-R1000 is a beast at doing), but if I'm not mistaken there are still straightaways on just about every US track. No sense in being a cannon in the twisties and as soon as you sit up right you have someone pullin on you.

Color: Going Black and Silver
1. Fairings
2. Suspension
3. Engine work

BTW anyone down for Road Atlanta before the end of the season?

This is all the "engine work" you need for an 08-09 CBR1K:

http://www.bazzazperformance.com/ind...mart&Itemid=26

Again, just out of curiosity, what track experience do you have? If you are an expert with plenty of experience riding literbikes, then you can be concerned about a few top end HP. If you aren't at that level, then I guarantee you will be parking that 1K in the corners and getting passed on the outside by 600's until you get some solid experience. Even my aforementioned WERA racing buddy, who had extensive experience on his ZX-6RR race bike, was quite a bit slower (initially) when he moved up to a ZX-10R. Riding a literbike to anywhere near its full potential on the track is not easy.

MSF Course and 9 track days (Road Atlanta) over this past summer on an K6 GSX-R1K. Fell in love with the track. I've gotten progressively better over the past 5 mo. That's helped my actually get more comfy in the N. GA mountains on the Busa. I've already experienced what 600s can do on a track with an unexperienced 1K rider (me). It didn't look to nice. I found myself having to break earlier than the 600s and still take a more aggressive lean angle to keep up. The brakes on that bike weren't the best and the suspension was bone stock. I've since gotten more confortable on that track. I'm not keeping up with the guys on the liter bikes yet, but I'll grow into my bike in due time. I guess you're right with the motor work but I will miss the power and torque of the Busa. Which is why I want to go ahead and get it taken care of in the off season.

I guess I should tell you why I came to the conclusion of why I am purchasing the Honda. I was a die hard Zuk fanboy. Learned on an sv650. Moved to a gsx-r750. Sold it got a GSX-R1K (Got stolen). Insurance money got me the Busa. Got a salvage 1k for the track... Sold it in July. I've just always been satisfied with the sheer power that Zuk engines produce. I've never felt like I needed more from them when I decide to crack the throttle. They power band is even and smooth on both bikes. Honda has more mid range torque that better for getting out of those twisties which was a big selling point to me. So I would like to just have my rwhp better than that of the 09 GSX-R1000 w/bolt ons.

I put the deposit down today and am picking it up on Sat morning. I'll post pics when I get to the house.

Congrats on the pickup. It barely got beat by the Kawi this year. Are they offering ABS on the 1k? I've seen videos of it working on the 600's but still dont' know what it would feel like. Although it's not aesthetically appealing it's still a great bike. I'm planning to pick up an 07 rr either this fall or winter and can't wait. The f4i I've been riding is fun but it's time to step it up and get some track experience.

If I had to buy a litre bike today it would be a 2008+ CBR 1000RR. Having said that, I have heard some bad things along the lines of excessive oil consumption problems on them.

Common problem on the 08+. I've been looking into that as well and plan on getting an extended warranty. I believe it is because people weren't properly breaking in the bikes. It's been hit or miss really. Hopefully I won't have that issue.

Found a NEW 08 CBR 1Krr for $7000 today. Almost too good. They have 3 bikes. I can go pay cash in morning. Do you think the resale/demand is dropping on these bikes? I was leaning towards Suzuki, but this seems like a great deal!
btw... I'm no sqid. 36y/o riding since I was 8.

edit: bought this was today for $7900, brand new. cbr 1000rr black/siver spec. edition

I was checkin out that crimson/silver but went with the black/black special edition for $500 more. After putting a few miles on it starting to wish I had saved the 500 on went with red. The black looks great clean but it it doesn't take long to turn 'bug' color

The red is a nice color... Although from pictures it may look blahh. But in person I think they look really good. I'm a 08 cbr600rr rider and overall I love their bike. I road ninja before and r6 and boy cbr is my favorite. I been thinking of moving up to 1k now but for canyon rides the 600rr actually feels nice and lighter haha... I tried 1k on canyons and gave me quite a work out. other than that nice choice... Hope to get the 1k soon.

I'd probably look for decent cheap(ebay) fairings since they'll get damaged anyways. Although I think the hanspree fairing looks really good! I see too much repsol ones

Congrats on the pick up. I hope they have this good of a deal for 600's when I pick one up. That is an insane price!
