Default Chicken Strips. How long till you lost em?

Hey guys. I have had my ZZR for two weeks now, and my chicken strips have become painfully obvious to me. LOL I am embarrased to be around other bikers!

On the good side, they are getting smaller and smaller. I am happy with my progress as this is my first sportbike, but I am curious to know, How long till you guys lost your chicken strips and really started leaning the bike over?

This will be similar to the "how much can you bench" thread.

I rode my bike for 7 months on the street and still had chicken strips. New tires and one track day got rid of my them front and back in 30 minutes.

Very good question, I have no idea.

100 miles for any rear tire as of now since I give it time to get all the slick stuff off. but for my first true street bike. I really have no idea, I didn't really care since it was more of a learning bike.

It's been 2 weeks and you want them gone already? If it's that important, just take some sandpaper to them.

Tires without them doesn't signify automatic credibility that the rider is "good".

Tire pressure, riding at a track or even a simple maneuver learned in the MSF course are 3 ways of riding them off.

Spray painting your tires all black is another way of doing it.

it took me about 6 months. on my first set of tires, my rear tire had a huge flat spot in the middle cause i would barely lean it. after i got a new set of tires i took the chicken stripes right off after a trip to the twisties.

if you wanna lose your chicken stripes go do some circles in a parking lot or scrub the sides of your tires with some water and a scotch brite pad.

If you have chicken strips and your still a beginner then dont be embarrased, pushing
your bike past your skillset just to loose them is stupid. I have been riding for years
and still remember the first knee down and boogering up the tires, it takes time and
like Low J said not on the street.

As someone stated above, if they really make you self-conscious, take some sandpaper to them.

You shouldn't care what other people think, as the majority of riders who care about things like that only last a few seasons anyway.

don't take sandpaper to them. real riders know what that looks like and you will get made fun of so much more for trying to look cool than if you just said "hey, i've only had a bike for 2 weeks"

If you are a begining rider and have chicken strips who cares? honestly the veterans will give you a hard time but deep down they are just joking with you. Most of us would rather see a new bike rider be safe and have chicken strips then go down and run into one of us trying to be cool and outride your skill level.

Just give it time and work into it. The only way you gain experience is from seat time, not pushing yourself too hard. 2 weeks of owning a bike is WAY too inexperienced to push the bike that far over in a turn. Don't be embarrassed about that though. Just take the comments with a grain of salt and in a few years you'll be joking with the next newbies on the street.

on a side note: it only takes the first turn i come to with new tires for mine to be gone 10+ years on a bike, 2 years 600 class racing and 8 years now stuntriding.

bullsh!t.. you can lose them in a parking lot.. you don't have to be riding wreckless to lose them..

BTW as i've posted this pic many times.. i lost mine in less than 900 miles

and this is a GSX-R 1000.. i mean if i was really riding that wreckless and it took THAT much effort.. i would be dead by now

BTW Binder.. i had the bike less than 1 Week... Service Dept was shocked when i took it in for a check up with 1400 miles 1 week after i bought it

At 3 months of riding I felt like I was leaning over like crazy. Of course being new every time I leaned it got easier to do. My old STOCK $hitty profile tire didnt want to let me go anymore leaving me with like 1/2" maybe more. I put on some Road Attacks with a better profile and without changing my habits the strips went away--all but .174" LMAO I was bored so I mic'd them!

Many time the profile of the tire has something to do with it as well. With that being said here is a pic of me after 1 yr 3 months on my SV. Never seen a track I just like to have fun within my limits whenever I can, knock on wood Ive never been down. Ride safe!!

oh .. i should also mention when i bought my first bought my bike.. the guy had 190 tires on them.. after i bought some 180 Sportec M1's in my 2nd year i was leaning like crazy and the strips come off wth no problems.. back then i had no idea 190's on a 600 i was buying my bike from a poser.. but then i should have realized it because the bike was 1 year old with 1200 miles on it

OP-if you want to get better, I HIGHLY recommend these two books read in this order.

I read these both and applied things at my pace, and I think it helped me tremendously. Keep in mind I also rode 9000 miles my first year, with 3000 of that the first 3.5 months.

The strips will leave eventually.
