Kosei K1's are supposed to be light and relatively cheap, in miata sizes anyway. Not sure how their larger sizes are.

What kind of racing are we talking?

For road racing, I wouldn't go cheap. It's not worth having one break and wreck your car. If you absolutely must go cheap, then stick with a steel wheel, not aluminum. Middle-of-the-road aluminum wheels from reputable manufacturers will get you a nice, strong wheel properly designed to reduce stress cracks from fatigue.

The Rays (OEM on track) are excellent track wheels, except for the 18" size. They are light, strong, and well designed. Stick with these if you don't want to spend any money.

Dunno about the OEM 17s...My guess is that they will fit diameter wise, but you might need to buy some wheel spacers to get the Brembos to clear the spokes. Fixed caliper brakes (Brembo)require greater clearances for the spokes when compared with floating caliper (OEM) setups. I'm not sure, but I think H&R sells wheel spacers that will fit the Z...they offer a variety of sizes from 5mm to 25mm. Tire Rack might be able to help you...I think they have the offset/backspacing specs for the Track and Non-Track Zs...this will tell you if you need to add spacers.

Kosei K1s do not come in a fitment that will fit a Z without the use of spacers, and even then they would look weird, as the widest width they come in in 17s is 7.5".

Enkei Bortex MIIs would work and wouldn't break the bank too badly. Pretty lightweight for the price.

Stock 17" OEM wheels fit fine over the Brembos. No spacers needed. This is what I run for autoX and road courses.

Jewelz350: Does going from 18" to 17" inch for AutoX mess with the suspension settings? Thanks!

It affects the ride height due to the different diameter but that is minimal at best. I bought the wheels with the OEM tires (which lasted 1/2 a season with 2 drivers. Race tires next year). I have no abnormal wear from the suspension--mine is all caused by my driving!!! LOL

FYI, technically, going from the 18" to the 17" takes you out of the stock class since the 17" was not standard on my model. However, no one at a local event has ever protested it. I'd hate to run BSP just because of the wheel.

Good luck.
