Default My NASA Racecar NA Build

Hey guys,
Dont post on here much but wanted to share my NA build with the forum. It all started going into turn 2 at Homestead. Lifted to half throttle before coming out of turn 1 and as I turned towards 2 and hit the throttle, BOOM. Not sure what caused the failure as of yet but the car goes to the shop, Japtrix, early next week to start her build.

Ignore my stupid date stamp

I am going to take alot of pics and videos when shes back and running.

Heres THE list:

SP Custom Pistons 12:1 Compression
Carillo A Beam Rods
GTM Stage 3 NA Cams
Haltech EMS
Haltech Racepak
Crawford Headers
Custom 3 Dual Exhaust w/ HKS mufflers
Cosworth Plenum
Koyo Radiator
Custom Oil Cooler
APS Oil Pan
Nismo PS Cooler
Nismo Thermostat
and other misc stuff like the bearings, main and head studs, etc.

I am excited, should be a great build. The car is going to be competing in Time Trials with NASA. I am about to complete the HPDE program so time to play with the big boys.

Joseph

Yea thats the goal but the car is rarely driven on the street..so I havent ruled out running a 100 octane tune.

Sorry to hear about your VQ blow-up. Looking at that list looks like you'll be gaining lots of NASA points as far as classing your Z. What TT class will you be running with that build?

Not sure, I am going to have to get the car dyno tested at a NASA "certified" dyno. They then class the car there and any engine mods are then ignored as far as points go. The stock Z starts in TTC. I am hoping I can squeeze it into TTB since I probably will be putting down 320-330whp. From there my tires/suspension will bump be into TTA. I am not sure if it will be competitive against the evos, subarus, or lightly modded corvettes but we will see.

Definately spend some times studying the rules, becuase they will add points for all those engine mods and ECU mods....they are not ignored.

If a car is heavy modded, for instance, a high powered built 350Z TT and a billion mods, then you are classed based on power to weight ratio alone. But no NA car is going to complete with those cars. If you are planning to campaign a normally aspirated 350Z, you are going to want to try and put yourself into TTB (Performance Touring B). If you can get the car to make 300whp+ then you might stand a chance in TTA.

I have emails into the TT directors. You are correct, once you break out past TTA/PTA, its strictly an adjusted weight/hp ration. However in TTA-TTE, you can choose to take points for all the engine modifications OR you can have the car reclassified via dyno testing if you have extensive internal modifications. You still take points for tires, suspension, etc, but things like exhaust, intake, ECU, etc. are included in the new base class. I see the car being reclassifed in TTB since my weight/hp ratio will be that of cars in TTB.

I have a full bolt on NA Z and I barely make it in TTB. I do run 275's NT01's and have full suspension (TC Kline Koni's, T2 springs, SPL arms, sways etc.)

I would plan on running in TTA if I were you. Otherwise your going to sacrifice handling and grip for HP.

You can print out their point worksheet form and add up your planed mods and see where you will be.

I plan on running in TTA. I was saying my new base class w/ all the engine work might be TTB. With my coilovers, camber arms, brembos, sways, and 275 R888s, I will be in TTA.

I familiar with the NASA CCRs and TT rules. The Florida region practically makes you memorize them.

Oh ok, I mis understood.

Depending on how competative TTA is in your area your car should do well. Just watch out for those Z06's!

Yea the Florida region is pretty competitive. The southeast on the other hand is another story. You compete in the Mid Atlantic I assume right? I gotta get up there for VIR!

Yep, I'm in the Mid A.

TT here hasn't really caught on big, but we'll see how this year goes. VIR is a lot of fun and the higher HP cars definetly do well. Z06's and some of the 911's seem to be the one's mostly passing me, but it can take a couple of laps to happen.

If you come up, let me know!

On another note, my 5th synchro is at it again. This is my second tranny as is. Has anyone heard of just replacing the synchros? Are there better ones anyone has had success with?

Well I left my camera in the Z...took some "old parts" home. It appears left front cylinder got the worst of the starvation, rod not only put two holes in both sides of the main oil pan, but two holes in each side of the block, along with several cracks. That sent the piston free and into the valves, which appear to have been in the down position as they saved my head from getting damaged. The bottom of that cylinder is all torn and nicked. The crank is gouged and trash. Now the fun begins =)

Well since I was need of a block/crank, I went to my source for OEM parts (hes top secret, we refer to him as Gandhi in the Team Jope world). He referred to me a guy who had a entire revup long block for sale for $200. Needless to say, I was there with my tundra to pick it up. Motor is mint and still factory sealed and as I only need the crank/block, I can probably sell the heads and come out with a little money. This motor should be torn down tomorow and the real work begins.

Itarin, I have run Sebring, Road Atlanta, Daytona, and Homestead (about 20 times lol)...hoping to get out to the other southeast tracks like CMP and VIR when shes done.
