If you are thinking of the 272 hi lift cams(11.3, 11mm lift), Tomei recommends 1mm deeper valve reliefs in your pistons. The 10.8mm lift cams ahould be good. You'll need better valve springs. If you are able, use the OEM valve retainers. They are forged aluminum and lighter than Ti retainers. If you need to swap lifters, look into getting the DLC lifters for a little less friction (the DE lifters are perfectly fine though if they are in spec).

There is no sense wasting good money. Pick up a set of vq35HR valve springs and use the stock retainers. What other mods do you have or plan to have?

Well I just got done talking to my friend and we might end up just doing forged internals along with the cams so saying that I might as well upgrade the full valvetrain right?

dnash:

Just out of curiosity, I was considering the JWT S1 cams, they are 10.87mm EX/IN, so I presume I'd be ok (2004 Z) + the springs.
Also just so I can look, what specific cams are the Tomei ones as they seem to have many.

I was looking at their 272 10.5 in.ex cams and I've heard any of their cams bigger than 264 they reccomend their valve spring kit

Yup I'd be doing that regardless, I'm just looking to know if that's all that is required without other problems

As far as I've seen just springs and retainers

JWT makes a better grind than Tomei does, I would talk to them first.

What about Brian Crower ?

Specs:
Adv. duration: 264 in / 264 ex
Dur @ 0.050 : 222 in/ 222 ex
Lift (in) : 0.426"/ 0.426"
Lift (mm): 10.82/ 10.82

Looks comparable to the JWT S1 set, so for me it's either the BC's or JWT.

The JWT C2 set probably have a bit too much lift for the stock pistons I guess (11.58mm).

Oh, and the spring kits - I'm not sure which to get:
