Nismo help needed about rear bumper and insurance.
Hey everyone,
I was the first car at a red light and when it turned green, a college girl accelerated before I got my car into 1st and my foot off of the brake. There is some visible damage to the special aero/cosmetic Nismo rear end and the bodyshop won't know if the inner, safety bumper was damaged until they get the aero one taken off. My questions:1. I noticed a preliminary estimate which included painting. Does the replacement rear end come from Nissan pre-painted since it's a special Nismo part? Or will the bodyshop have to do the painting? 2. Has anyone worked with insurance companies on a situation like this? My lawyer mentioned something about possible "decreased market value". It is a PPW 2008 with 10k miles on it. Her insurance company (state farm) seem to be accepting liability since the police report states she hit me.
Anyone with tips, info, suggestions, etc. ....I would very much like to have your input. This is thefirst time I've ever dealt with anything like this and I can use all the help I can get. Thanks in advance. You guys are the greatest.
UPDATE: Thanks to Cridda for the wonderful information. Can anyone tell me if the nismo bumpers are pre-painted at Nissan? I don't want the repair shop to put on a cheap imitation and paint it.
insurance company will pay to put your car back to its original condition.
check to see if your state allows diminished value(I am sure it does). Call an independent diminished value claims adjuster and after all repairs are done, he will inspect the car and give you the diminished value. You will have to pay for this(as the ins company will hardball you) and you will get a greater amount with your own estimate. You then turn that report in to State Farm at the claims department(there is a special claims department for this, so ask for diminished value claims). Hope everything works out. State Farm is a fair company.
How interesting....I ran into a similar issue. I did not want to fuss with filing for 'diminished value' and just took whatever my insurance company decided to give me. I think it was around $500. I am curious to see what you can get if you pursue this. Keep us updated.
The nismo front came unpainted from Japan for mine. It was plastic black.
When you get the estimate, make sure to get a rental car. The insurance company would have to add that to the repair estimate.
I wouldn't worry about diminshed value since the body shop should retore your car to the way it was befor the accident, or better. The Nissan bodyshop that replaced my front bumper color matched the PPW better than the factory. The front bumper & the rest of the car, except for the rear bumper are nearly identical in color even under flouresent lights. The rear bumper is is a slightly brighter white.
