Default Warning: Do not go to performance motorsports

I just got back from a clutch install at Performance Motorsport and had a TERRIBLE experience.

Here is the story: I call up the shop and inquire on the price for a clutch swap. I clearly informed the clutch was OS Giken clutch. They told me the price was $300. It was a good price so I brought the car in. The techs in the shop were great. They knew exactly what they were doing on my turboed G37 and the clutch install was very professional.

My car went up on the lift at 3:00PM and came off around 5:45. When I went to pay for the labor, the owner all of a sudden wants $660. He said that the shop rate was $110/hr and there were 2 techs working on my car. So that counted for 6 hours of labor. But he said he'd give me a courteous $100 off. At this point, I was thinking WTF. I came in because they told me it would be $300 and now they want double. I never asked for two technicians to work on my car. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE QUOTE YOU GAVE ME?

I told him all that and he pulls out some ******** about having to rethread all of the flywheel bolt holes. I was watching the techs almost the whole time and it was only ONE thread that had to be fixed.

I got extremely pissed off and I ended up arguing and yelling at him for 20 minutes before he reluctantly dropped the price to $450. He still ripped me off by $150 bucks.

In short, the boys in the shop do great work but the owner is running a bait and switch scheme. If you dont want to get ripped off, dont take your car there.

THEY WILL MAKE ANY EXCUSE TO OVERCHARGE YOU!

Sorry to hear that. I do not like when shops charge more than a quote without reason. Considering you were on the lift for 2 hours 45 minutes and one flywheel bolt hole re-threaded You really should of been in the $350 range with an original quote of $300. $660 is pretty crazy though.

It makes since .... The 1st tech was running late for work and rushed out the house forgetting his belt, he gets to work and the owner of the shop see's his pants falling off while he's working on your car and send's the 2nd tech over to hold his pants up while he installed your clutch! The tread got stripped because the 1st tech was trying to put in the bolt while trying to hold up his own pants causing it to cross tread. $660 is about right for that shop....LOL. Glad your happy with your clutch, sorry you had to pay for a lesson , but it's a lesson well learned.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience.

Everyone should go over the deatails before starting any work on the car and get an estimate / invoive to review. Even though verbal agreement is a binding contract you have no way to prove the agreed price for clutch replacement was $300.

Who was the "owner"? Older tall guy? Or younger guy with long hair?

Just so you know, Performance Motorsport will soon be finished. Something better is coming. Can't say much more than that, but great things are on their way.

I used to live in Cali but Im going to school in NY right now. I had a house with a garage to do all my installs myself. But now I'm living in an apartment and have to depend on f*cked up shops like PM.

I had to deal with the old white guy. I basically cussed him out in front of all his staff.

I dont come on this board as often anymore so I didnt see any bad reviews on Performance Motorsport. Otherwise, I would've never have gone there. I used to have a G35 and I visited this site everyday. But now I'm mostly on ******* and myg37 forums.

Let me tell you something tho. There is a lot more knowledgeable people on this forum. Whenever I need to find technical info, I always come back searching here.

Look man. Ur so right about the knowledge on this forum. Jus because these douche bags got a shop don't mean squat. They have shown on numerous occasions that they are incompetent. I won't get started on the list of personal friends I have that have been beaten by these fools.

Not anymore, myself n my cousin have opened up a shop in Northern Jersey n it's about doing the right thing. Not sellin bs to folks.

Plenty of ppl in this section kno me. I've done work for some.

Pm me if u ever wanna talk. I'm not selling nothing in this thread but those that kno me can vouch.

Sorry to hear this man. Stuff like this especially pisses me off. They are complete idiots, things like this is what kills repeat business. I don't imagine they'll stay open for much longer though, considering their dishonesty.
