haha get the B5 S4 and comeback in 6 months and tell me about maintance. God I hated my audi
$1,000 DIY timing belt job
$800 for control arms
1,300 for burnt ECU from a reflash
fuel pump.....12hour job
thermostat change......2 day job...and you need to unbolt the front frame
tranny starts to make noise.....1st gear is on the input shaft....time for a new tranny.
It's not what I consider super fast tho, a slightly modded B5 would probably kill it.
I get 14mpg around town, 20mpg on the highway.
It has a small tank...which means I get about 200 miles to the tank. (14gal I believe) Just some stuff to think about.
It's a lot more reliable than a B5 however....if you're in to tuning and don't mind that sort of thing, get the B5.
My mods on it are a CAI and a full exhaust (high flow cats and back). Sounds great, gets some extra power...but I'm done. There really isn't anything more to do to it.
There is a supercharger that just came out. Not sure if it's officially for sale yet or not since it's not something I'm going to do. It's about $10k and not worth it imo with the B8 coming out next year. The tests look good tho, the avant that they tested it on drove all over the country. Would make quite a sleeper.
I've got B6 S4 and having owned all japanese cars, I have to say I love my Audi. Its a tank and is heavy as sin but having owned mine for about two months I would have to recommend the B6. I haven't had any problems with mine, yet (crosses fingers).
I agree with drvolkl, its not superfast considering the HP/TQ and it being a V8.
Reliability is def a big factor here. Sell me your B6, Eric! Deal on that Nogaro Blue B5 S4 Avant didn't come through.
I'd love to sell it to ya! Problem is that I owe too much on it...it's just not worth anything. (No one is buying V8 AWD sedans right now!) I'd take a huge hit. It's going to take me another year to catch up with what it's "worth".

but the thing is, i do want a step up with power for sure. bolt ons for the z is just a waste of money and doesnt get u anywhere.
my price range is prolly around 23-24k to spend with. i love my z and all but just bored of the power and cant drop 8k cash for FI and i know i wouldnt get it back in the end.
S4's TT>V8 for sure. the TT makes good power with light mods.
i like the V8's look more cuz its a step up for luxury and a good all around car. but the thing weighs 3,700lbs or somethin. an 07 Z can beat it.
Corvette zo6. looks sharp, great power stock, and an upgrade class id say. im not really into american cars, but thats the only one id ever buy prolly.
any other cars in mind for 23-24k to spend with? mainly looking for something faster than the z, but then again is reliable, and doesnt have crap interior.
Yeah, the vette and S4 are worlds apart. I'd take the B6 A4 of course.....the V8 sounds awesome, has great power, and you get the updated Audi styling which is just beautiful. Plus they have the best interiors in the biz. Get the vette if you're only interested in performance....that's it's only advantage.
